Chapter_38
A shadow seemed to fall across Weston’s face for a brief moment, but he remained silent, his eyes still fixed on Stella, scrutinizing her every move. Stella sat beside Yvonne in quiet contemplation, seemingly unaware of the intense gaze that lingered on her. She would never have guessed that the guests Yvonne mentioned were Weston and Guinevere. What a small world it was! The irony of this encounter wasn’t lost on her—she had never imagined meeting them again, especially after Weston had been so insistent on sending her out of his life. Despite everything, Stella found herself curious to see how Weston would react now that he had seen her again.
“I had the same thought when I first met Ella!” Yvonne exclaimed with genuine astonishment. “She looked just like a friend of mine! What a strange coincidence. I never imagined two people who aren’t twins could look so alike. It was weird enough that I knew someone who looked like Ella. I can’t believe that you know someone who looks like her too!”
Yvonne then turned to study Stella’s face more closely.
“Such a pretty face… I can’t believe there are so many people who look like you!” Yvonne added, her voice full of admiration.
Stella couldn’t help but laugh. “You’re only saying that to flatter me, aren’t you?” she teased.
Yvonne laughed along, unfazed. “I’m just speaking the truth! You really are that pretty!”
At this point, Guinevere had regained her composure. Her mind, still clouded with suspicion, began to shift toward certainty. Could this woman really not be Stella Sealey? Could there truly be someone who looked so much like her? Was it even possible for two people to resemble each other so perfectly?
“These two are the guests I mentioned,” Yvonne continued, eager to introduce everyone. “This is Mr. Weston Ford, and with him is the superstar Guinevere Cohen. I’m sure you’ve heard of her, right? Well, Mr. Ford is her…”
Yvonne paused, giving the couple a playful smile. “Um… is he your boyfriend or fiancé?”
Guinevere went pale, her gaze immediately shifting toward Weston. It was a look so laden with meaning that anyone could guess the unspoken question: What now?
“Ah!” Yvonne gasped, not missing the tension in the air. “I guess we should be expecting good news from you two soon! When’s the wedding going to be?”
Weston’s eyes finally moved from Stella to address the question, his voice devoid of emotion. “In two months.”
“So soon?” Yvonne asked, surprised. “Will the two of you be ready in time?”
“I’m sure we will,” Guinevere replied with a tight smile, trying to maintain her composure. “It’s only a simple ceremony, after all.”
“So when are you two getting the marriage license?” Yvonne asked, her tone light but curious.
The atmosphere in the room shifted instantly, growing tense. Guinevere’s expression flickered, though Weston remained as indifferent as ever.
“We’re not in a hurry,” he said flatly.
The moment those words left Weston’s mouth, it was clear to everyone that something had shifted in Guinevere. It was impossible to miss the drastic change in her demeanor. No matter how skilled an actress she was, the change was too obvious for any woman to miss.
Yvonne, always bold and brash, noticed the shift immediately. She realized that something was off but wasn’t sure what it was. Wanting to ease the tension, she quickly attempted to change the subject.
Noticing how quiet Stella had been ever since they arrived downstairs, Yvonne decided to involve her in the conversation to help lighten the mood.
“What kind of man do you like, Ella?” she asked, a mischievous smile playing on her lips. “I can set you up with someone, you know?”
Stella, caught off guard by the question, almost choked. She started coughing uncontrollably, her cheeks turning beet-red. Tears welled up in her eyes as she reached for the napkin on the table. It was right in front of her, but before she could grab it, Weston picked it up and handed it to her.
Stella froze, surprised by his gesture.
“Thank you,” she muttered, her gaze fixed firmly on the napkin, not daring to look at him.
