Chapter 224
Guinevere cut Weston off before he could finish. “Weston, what do you mean? Are you asking me to distance myself from Zack?” Her voice trembled with a mix of confusion and hurt.
Chris, standing behind her, added, “In your current state, you need to keep your distance from Zack. If we’re not around, you could hurt him and Wendy. It would only cause you more pain.”
The hope in Guinevere’s eyes seemed to fade in an instant. “I don’t understand why I hurt Zack… What’s wrong with me? Why can’t I remember anything…” Her voice broke, and she sank further into her despair.
Weston’s gaze was fixed on her, his expression grave. He studied her as though trying to uncover the truth beneath her distress. After a tense silence, he spoke. “Let’s go to the doctor first.”
The situation was spiraling, and the Cohen family had been quick to react. Upon hearing of Guinevere’s emotional instability, they wasted no time in arriving at Ford Mansion. Their frustration was palpable. They had long been displeased with Weston and Guinevere’s delayed marriage, and this new development only added fuel to the fire.
Just as Weston was about to leave with Guinevere, the car carrying Mr. and Mrs. Cohen arrived. They hurried out and rushed into the mansion, clearly upset. Mrs. Cohen’s eyes filled with tears as soon as she saw Guinevere.
“Gwen…” Mrs. Cohen’s voice cracked as she rushed to her daughter, pulling her into an embrace. Guinevere collapsed into her arms, sobbing uncontrollably. Her once-beautiful hair was a mess, and her face was streaked with tears. Mrs. Cohen had never seen her daughter so broken, and the sight of it ignited a flare of anger within her.
Mr. Cohen, his face clouded with fury, approached Weston. His voice was sharp and cold. “What happened here?” He gestured toward Guinevere, his anger rising. “I entrusted my daughter to you. Is this how you’re taking care of her?”
Weston remained silent, his face grim. His lack of response only seemed to fuel Mr. Cohen’s rage. “Why are you silent? You owe me an explanation. My daughter was perfectly fine before she got involved with you. She had a child with you, and now, before you’re even married, she’s falling apart. Do you still want to marry her or not?”
The gravity of Mr. Cohen’s words made the air thick with tension. Chris, standing nearby, hesitated. He wasn’t going to interfere in this heated exchange, but he understood the implications. With Weston’s silence, the wedding might very well be in jeopardy.
“We’re at fault,” Chris said, his voice steady. “We should have taken better care of her. We’ll do whatever we can to make it right.” He spoke with a newfound authority, taking charge of the situation, unlike the guilt-ridden tone he’d taken with Weston.
Everyone in the room knew that while Chris appeared to be the one in charge, Weston wielded the real power, making decisions that affected everyone. Chris, despite his outward confidence, still had to consult Weston on crucial matters.
Mr. Cohen shot Weston a cold look before turning his attention back to Chris. “I came here today to take Gwen home,” he said, his voice heavy with reproach. “I know my daughter’s situation is less than ideal. The fact that she got pregnant out of wedlock isn’t something to be proud of, but she’s given birth to your family’s first grandchild. Is this how you’re going to treat her?”
Chris opened his mouth to respond but stopped himself. Wendy’s voice, calm but firm, suddenly cut through the tension as she appeared at the top of the stairs.
“No matter what,” Wendy said, her gaze unwavering, “Gwen is still Zack’s mother. We’ll make sure she’s treated well.”
Chris’s eyes widened in surprise. He hadn’t expected Wendy to come downstairs. His voice, a mix of confusion and concern, slipped out. “Why did you come down?”
