Chapter 246
Weston knew exactly why Xavier had come. Despite their frequent disagreements, it had become an unspoken habit for them to visit Henry together every so often. Even though Weston was cold and often bad-tempered, he didn’t lash out at Xavier without reason—at least, not unless something had really annoyed him.
Xavier had a vague feeling that he had done something to upset Weston, but he couldn’t quite put his finger on it. As they settled into the car, Xavier fastened his seatbelt. The car started moving, and he quickly turned the conversation toward what was bothering him.
“Did I do something wrong? Offend you in some way recently?” he asked, genuinely trying to figure it out.
After a brief moment of thought, Xavier could only recall one incident where he might have crossed a line: he had teased his secretary. “You’re not angry with me because of Daisy, are you?” he asked, his voice hinting at a playful tone.
Daisy was one of Weston’s secretaries, known for her exceptional capabilities. However, Xavier had always tried to flirt with her whenever he visited Weston, only to be turned down each time. He found the challenge intriguing. “Don’t tell me you’re actually interested in her, and now you want to interfere with her matters,” Xavier continued, half-joking, half-serious.
Weston, as always, was a man who seemed indifferent to women outside of Guinevere. He rarely showed interest in anyone else. Yet, the last time they had spoken, Weston had seemed unusually concerned about Daisy. Xavier raised an eyebrow, sensing something amiss.
Weston didn’t respond immediately. He seemed lost in thought for a moment, perhaps reflecting on someone or something else. Finally, he glanced at the time on his phone. There were no new messages or notifications. His silence only made Xavier more curious.
“Who are you waiting for?” Xavier asked, his voice laced with suspicion.
Weston didn’t answer, but his eyes shifted, and he turned the car onto the highway. Xavier couldn’t help but notice the change in direction, and it only deepened his curiosity. “I heard you’re going to register your marriage with Guinevere soon. When’s the big day? Should I get you a present, as your uncle? Though, I’ve been a little tight on cash lately…”
Before Xavier could finish his teasing remark, Weston suddenly slammed on the brakes, making Xavier lurch forward in his seat. Just as quickly, Weston stepped on the gas again, continuing the drive as if nothing had happened.
Xavier, unfazed, raised an eyebrow with a playful smirk. “Are you annoyed?” he teased, clearly amused.
As Weston’s uncle, Xavier had learned to navigate his moods and odd behavior over the years. Still, there were moments when he couldn’t figure out what Weston was thinking.
“You don’t seem like you want to marry Guinevere at all. You’ve been with her for so long, and she’s already borne you a son. Isn’t it time to just tie the knot already?” Xavier pressed, more curious than anything else.
“Can you just shut up?” Weston interrupted sharply, his tone cold and unaffected by the conversation.
Xavier chuckled lightly and shook his head, deciding to let the subject drop for the moment. He knew better than to push too far with Weston.
At the Random Art Training Center
Stella arrived at the training center as usual, but there was a noticeable shift in the atmosphere. Perhaps it was because the closure notice for next month had been circulated, but the staff now seemed more cautious than before. The usual relaxed vibe had been replaced with a sense of tension and uncertainty.
Yvonne, who had only come in for classes in the past, now arrived at the center every day. She appeared more focused than ever, taking her role seriously. As Stella walked in, Yvonne handed her a box with a smile.
“See if you like this or not,” she said casually, though Stella could tell the gesture was an attempt at compensation for the changes ahead.
Stella didn’t refuse the gift. She understood that Yvonne was trying to ease the tension and maintain a sense of normalcy, even if things were different now.
