Chapter 254
Roger frowned, his gaze turning cold. “She is my sister. Don’t make assumptions with your nasty thoughts.”
“Sister?” The boy was taken aback.
He scratched his head, not offended at all. Instead, his attitude toward Roger softened. “I didn’t know you had a sister.”
“What does it matter to you?” Roger dismissed him, uninterested in any further interaction, and tugged Stella away.
Once they were a good distance away, Stella let out a quiet sigh of relief. “Is this how you get along with your classmates?”
“It isn’t. We’re not in the same class. He’s from another department, but we take a few classes together.”
“Even so, he’s still your senior. How could you be so rude to him?” Stella asked, surprised.
Noticing another lecture on the horizon, Roger rubbed his temples. “Alright, alright. It’s hard enough for you to come over, so don’t nag me. Let’s go to the cafeteria. I’ll treat you to your favorite meal.”
Hearing this, Stella smiled. Since she had come all the way to visit him, she decided not to keep lecturing him. Together, they made their way to the cafeteria, where the crowd was thick.
“Is it always this crowded?” she asked, looking at the packed space.
Roger, who had been at Ahn University before, nodded as he observed the bustling atmosphere. “Yeah, it’s like this most of the time.” Stella had entered Ahn University before him. Although they were from different intakes, they were still considered alumni, and she knew the campus well.
Looking around, a wave of nostalgia hit her. “It feels like it’s only been a few years since I graduated, but I can’t even remember what the campus looked like,” she said, her voice tinged with longing.
Roger, understanding her feelings, was quiet for a moment. Then, he spoke seriously. “Stella, why don’t you consider going to graduate school after I graduate?”
She blinked, surprised. “What makes you bring this up all of a sudden?”
Roger shook his head. “I went to the recruitment fair, and the employee benefits, especially in the computer science field, are great. I worked it out—I’ll be able to support you in about a year. When that time comes, you can quit your job and focus on your studies. I’ll pay for your tuition if you want to go to grad school. You’ve always wanted to continue studying, right? You’re still young, so it’s not too late.”
He moved a few steps forward in the line, choosing some dishes she liked before walking beside her again.
The cafeteria was packed, and finding an empty seat seemed nearly impossible. After a bit of elbowing through the crowd, they finally managed to secure a table. The noise of so many people packed into the space was almost deafening, forcing them to shout to hear each other.
“Stop saying nonsense,” Roger said, his voice still raised. “I plan to let you go to grad school after you graduate. Mr. Hall told me your grades are excellent, and you might even get a postgraduate recommendation. You should focus on that.”
Stella, nibbling on a piece of apple pie, put her fork down at his words. She sighed softly. “I don’t need you to make money for me. We have enough to live comfortably for the rest of our lives.”
“But that’s Weston’s money. I don’t want to spend it,” Roger said without thinking, his voice dropping with an almost imperceptible bitterness.
The moment the name left his lips, he realized the mistake he had made. His head lowered in immediate apology. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to bring him up.”
Stella smiled softly, trying to brush it off. “It’s alright. You didn’t say anything wrong.” She hurriedly finished her food. “Hurry up and eat. I need to get to work.”
The mention of Weston had cast a shadow over their conversation, making the atmosphere between them a little more tense. Roger immediately regretted his words, realizing he shouldn’t have tried to put on a brave face, especially when it came to that man.
