Chapter_131
Despite everything she had been through, Stella still dreamed of having a family. The desire burned quietly in her heart. She wanted to be independent, to build a life where she didn’t have to rely on anyone. She was determined to carve out her own career, but that didn’t mean she had to give up on the idea of a family.
Ever since the moment she lost her parents, she had been forced to support herself and her brother, Roger. It had been a heavy burden, and over time, the weight had become exhausting. She longed for a place of comfort, a safe harbor. The realization came slowly, but finally, she knew. She needed someone to lean on.
It took her a long time to speak, and when she did, her voice was hoarse. “Okay,” she said quietly.
Meanwhile, Guinevere’s excitement about her upcoming marriage overshadowed any lingering frustrations she had. Even in the hospital, where she had been getting a checkup, everything seemed to please her.
Her assistant, noticing her unusually cheerful mood, couldn’t resist asking, “Now that you’re finally marrying Mr. Ford, should we expect any presents?”
Guinevere’s frown flickered for a moment, but she quickly composed herself, brushing off the comment. “Of course. I’ll make sure to send you all big presents when the time comes!”
The assistant smiled, her enthusiasm unbothered by the earlier exchange. “By the way, how did your checkup go? You should be in good health, right?”
Guinevere nodded confidently. “Everything’s fine. This is just a formality. I’ve already had Zack, and he’s so lively and cute. Neither of us have any inherited diseases. The checkup is just for peace of mind.”
As they spoke, Weston entered the room from the hallway.
Tall and commanding, he wore a sleek black coat that highlighted his broad shoulders and long legs. His chiseled features and presence made him more handsome than any of the co-stars she had worked with. With his poise and aura, he could have easily succeeded in the entertainment industry, but he had chosen to run the family business instead.
How could she not be captivated by such a man?
Her eyes shone with admiration as she rose to her feet and walked toward him. “I’m done with all the procedures. I was just waiting for the results.”
He nodded, his gaze scanning over her before landing on the report in her hand.
Without hesitation, she handed it to him. “All the values are normal.”
She didn’t think to ask much more. She assumed the checkup was just a formality and that nothing unexpected would come up. Weston didn’t seem concerned either. He glanced at the report briefly before handing it to his assistant.
But Guinevere couldn’t shake the feeling that something was amiss. Weston had insisted on this premarital checkup, so she had assumed it was something he took seriously. However, now that the checkup was done, he appeared distant and distracted, almost disinterested in the results.
She furrowed her brow, studying his face. “Are you feeling unwell?” she asked, her voice laced with concern. “Do you need to rest?”
He shook his head, his eyes drifting to the clock on the wall. After a beat, he said flatly, “There’s one last test.”
Guinevere was taken aback. “Isn’t everything finished already? What else could there be?”
He glanced at her briefly before answering indifferently. “A psychological test.”
At that moment, his eyes locked onto hers with an intensity that made her feel as if he could see right through her. A sudden wave of nervousness washed over her, though she couldn’t quite understand why.
