Maisy was completely thrown off guard by Skylar’s sudden boldness. She had never imagined that Skylar would stand up for herself with such confidence, especially now that she seemed to carry a sense of superiority. Skylar’s demeanor had clearly changed, and it unsettled Maisy even further.
The tension in the room was palpable, with the manager and the hotel staff uncertain about what was happening. From the looks on their faces, it was clear that they sensed some deeper connection between Skylar and Janine.
Skylar turned to the manager, her voice steady and commanding. “I’m Janine’s daughter, and I suspect these women are framing her. If you don’t call the police, I’ll do it myself.” Her gaze flicked to Maisy and Sadie, her fury simmering beneath her calm exterior.
The manager quickly tried to de-escalate the situation, recognizing the growing tension. “Please, let’s not escalate things. Do you know each other? Perhaps there’s some misunderstanding here?” He gestured for everyone to sit down, attempting to ease the situation without involving the authorities.
Sadie’s face twisted with contempt as she glared at Skylar. “Don’t you know who your biological mother is? You’d call the police on your own mother over this woman? You’ve become a disrespectful troublemaker!” She scoffed, as if Skylar’s actions were the ultimate betrayal.
Skylar didn’t flinch. Her voice was steady, but sharp. “Us having biological ties doesn’t change anything. The woman who raised me, who took care of me, is my true mother. And if you really think I would stand by and let you frame her, you’re gravely mistaken.”
The tension between them built as Maisy, still seething, stepped forward, her hands trembling with rage. “How dare you compare that woman to Mom? Skylar, are you trying to ruin our relationship?” She was practically shaking with fury, and without warning, she made a move toward Skylar, as if to slap her.
“Skye!” Janine gasped, worried that the confrontation was escalating too quickly.
But Skylar was faster. In one fluid motion, she grabbed Maisy’s arm, spun her around, and threw her to the ground, pressing her knee into Maisy’s abdomen to keep her from getting up. Maisy kicked and squirmed, her struggle becoming more frantic, but Skylar held her down effortlessly. In her desperate attempt to break free, Maisy kicked around, her dress hiking up and revealing more than she intended.
The entire room froze. The speed and precision with which Skylar had handled the situation left everyone speechless. Maisy, who was known for her perfect appearance and ladylike behavior, was now sprawled on the floor, howling in indignation.
Skylar didn’t back down. She slapped Maisy a few times, each blow sharp and swift. Maisy shrieked in pain, her ears ringing from the force of it. “I’m not done with you, Skylar!” Maisy yelled, her voice cracking. “I’ll call the cops on you! How dare you hit me?”
Sadie, now fully aware of the gravity of the situation, moved to push Skylar away, but Janine stopped her. “Let them handle it. As elders, we shouldn’t interfere in our children’s fight,” Janine said, her voice calm but firm. She had almost forgotten Skylar’s past, the way she could always defend herself when needed. Janine had seen her daughter fight back in their countryside days, and she knew just how capable Skylar was.
The room fell silent for a moment, with everyone stunned by the rapid turn of events. Maisy’s cries echoed in the room, but Janine had grown used to her dramatic outbursts. She knew this was just Maisy’s way of handling frustration.
Then, a cold, interrogative voice broke the silence. “What is going on here?”
Everyone turned toward the door, where a tall figure stood. Joe. Skylar’s gaze widened as she saw him. She hadn’t expected him to show up here. His presence only added to the already tense atmosphere, and she couldn’t help but wonder why he was here at this moment.
Maisy, flustered and still on the floor, instantly became more self-conscious upon seeing Joe. She quickly tried to compose herself, her face flushed with embarrassment.
Skylar, too, was momentarily taken aback. Why was Joe here? And how would he react to the scene unfolding in front of him?
