“Photoshopped?” the group asked in unison, disbelief clear on their faces.
Maisy nodded, her eyes welling up with fake tears. “Yeah! Why would I steal Skylar’s boyfriend? I don’t understand. Why would she do this to me?” she sobbed dramatically.
The three Williams brothers, who were absolutely fond of Maisy, immediately turned against Skylar. The moment they heard Maisy’s version, they couldn’t help but despise her.
“I’m going to Skylar right now. I’ll make her post an official statement on social media to clear things up,” Peter growled.
Kenny’s expression twisted with disgust. “She’s getting bolder by the day. Acting more out of line than ever!”
“We should make her come home and apologize to Maisy properly!” Samuel added, his face darkening.
Sadie, who had been listening to her sons’ words, took another look at the photo on her phone. Despite her doubts, it didn’t seem like it was photoshopped. But, Maisy would never lie—so, naturally, Skylar had to be the one in the wrong.
Even after taking a deep breath, her anger didn’t subside. “That brat is nothing but trouble!” she muttered.
Maisy kept crying, adding a few more fake sobs for effect. She knew her family well—saying less made her look more pitiful, and they’d quickly believe Skylar was the one at fault.
Meanwhile, Maisy couldn’t help but wonder what was going through Christopher’s mind. Why would he post about proposing on social media so soon? Not only that, but why was Skylar so determined to publicly clarify that they were no longer together?
Maisy began to worry when exactly Skylar had discovered the affair. They had been so careful about hiding it.
Peter tried calling Skylar multiple times, but she didn’t pick up. “She’s got some nerve ignoring my calls!” he grumbled.
Kenny’s face darkened with frustration. “She’s not answering mine either!”
“Let me try,” Samuel said, picking up his phone. He tried calling Skylar, but once again, there was no answer. The brothers’ faces grew more grim with each passing moment.
Skylar had been making an effort to win over the Williams family ever since her reunion with them, yet now she was deliberately ignoring their calls. Sadie, seeing the trio’s failed attempts, didn’t bother trying herself. It was clear Skylar was throwing a tantrum, but why?
The room fell silent.
Finally, Samuel broke the silence, his frown deepening. “We need to find her today. If she doesn’t clear up these lies, people will expose this scandal to the media. If someone recognizes Maisy from that photo, it’ll be everywhere.”
He worked in the entertainment industry and knew all too well how quickly news could spread through social media and the press. There was no telling if the photo had already been screen-shotted and turned into viral content on other platforms.
The Williams family was considered a reputable name in Jipsburg City, and they couldn’t afford to get caught up in a scandal.
Maisy hadn’t fully thought this through, but when she heard Samuel’s words, her eyes widened in concern. “That photo is fake, Samuel! I don’t want the media to expose me!”
Samuel nodded. “Let’s see how things play out for now. We’ll try contacting Skylar again. And don’t worry—I’ll reach out to my contacts in the media industry for some PR control.” He picked up his phone and quickly dialed a number.
Maisy, though still seeming worried, gave a nod. As she lowered her head, a sly gleam flashed in her eyes. She knew the photo wasn’t photoshopped, but with the Williams family behind her, she could easily twist the narrative. With Samuel’s media contacts and the Williams family’s connections in Jipsburg, there was nothing Skylar could do to stop her.
Sadie, seeing the opportunity, quickly called Jeffrey. However, he seemed busy and frustrated, only telling her to let his sons handle the matter.
When the call ended, Sadie was left feeling oddly defeated, a sensation she couldn’t quite put into words. But, as she tried to shake off the feeling, she convinced herself it was simply because Skylar had pushed her too far.
