If no one had helped Skylar, how did the sentiments on the internet shift so quickly?
Maisy couldn’t believe it. She had underestimated Skylar, thinking that she was just another woman smitten with Christopher. She assumed any arguments between them would be minor. But now, it seemed Skylar had already secured some sort of backing—something that had turned the situation in her favor.
Kenny’s frown deepened as he mulled over the situation.
Hearing Maisy’s words, Samuel suddenly snapped his fingers, his eyes widening with realization. “I underestimated Skylar. She managed to turn the tables in just an hour. That means she must’ve found someone incredibly powerful behind her! How else could she turn things around so fast with just those videos, photos, and some so-called high school classmates?”
“That’s true, considering her looks,” Kenny muttered darkly. “She’s certainly not without her advantages.” He rubbed his temples, already feeling the pressure of the situation. Their family had been humiliated in the public eye.
“But I don’t believe Maisy would ever have eyes for Christopher. It must’ve been Skylar, jealous of how much we favored Maisy,” Samuel continued, frustration coloring his tone. “She became arrogant and wanted to make things difficult for us.”
Sadie watched the exchange, then looked over at Maisy, her doubt starting to grow. Could it really be deepfake AI? She hesitated, but when she saw Maisy’s pitiful expression, she quickly dismissed her concerns. How could Maisy be lying to her?
Sadie’s unease deepened as she thought about Skylar’s apparent financial backing. Could it be that Skylar had found herself a benefactor? Had she found a way to become reliant on someone who was helping her with this entire situation? The thought made Sadie uncomfortable.
“Samuel, I want the PR team to come up with a solution where both sides win,” Sadie said after a moment of thought, her voice sharp. “Tell them to be mindful of Skylar too.”
Maisy, still tearful, looked up at her mother in surprise. Was Sadie starting to care about Skylar now?
Maisy quickly nodded, exaggerating her sorrow. “That’s right. She found herself a financial backer, and she’s got some misunderstanding with us. Mom’s worried about us too, right? We should find a way to resolve this and end the mess.”
Sadie simply nodded, her eyes narrowing with concern. She was uncertain of what was really going on, but the feeling that Skylar had some secret backing was becoming harder to ignore.
Chapte 65
Sadie sighed heavily, glancing at Maisy. “Maisy is still the more mature one,” she murmured, her voice tinged with regret.
Kenny, his expression darkening, shot back sharply, “If Skylar really found a sugar daddy, I’ll never acknowledge her as my sister. What an embarrassment! How could a Williams stoop so low as to have a sugar daddy?”
Maisy, with a look of disdain, rolled her eyes. “He’s someone who has so much influence in Jipsburg City, and he’s been able to resolve this issue so quickly. Skylar’s sugar daddy… I’m afraid he’s probably around Dad’s age.”
She paused, a spiteful smile creeping onto her face. “Surely, he must be an elderly man. Something like this might be common in the entertainment industry, but it’s just disgusting. It’s hard to believe this could be happening so close to us.”
Samuel, too, was visibly upset, his frustration evident. “This whole thing is just embarrassing.”
At first, Sadie had felt some sympathy for Skylar. But hearing her children’s comments, that sympathy quickly began to evaporate. “It hasn’t been long since she came back, and yet she’s already causing this much trouble,” she muttered under her breath.
Samuel’s gaze, which had been clouded with concern, suddenly brightened as he looked at his phone. “Wait, there’s a way to handle this,” he said, his tone more confident now. A solution from the PR department had appeared, and his troubled expression seemed to lift.
Meanwhile, at a bustling barbecue restaurant on a food street, Steven had arrived ten minutes earlier. He’d already placed orders for meat skewers and drinks. As the savory smell of grilled meat filled the air, he waited for Skylar.
When she walked in, the skewers had just been served. Skylar, catching the delicious aroma, felt her stomach rumble. “I was just craving barbecue. You really get me, Steven,” she said with a smile, her eyes lighting up at the sight of the food.
Steven couldn’t help but grin as he watched her eagerly eye the skewers. Although there was a lingering sense of worry and suspicion in his mind, he pushed it aside, choosing to focus on the moment. “Hurry up and sit down then,” he urged. “Enjoy the skewers while they’re still hot. I ordered quite a lot today, so there should be plenty for you.”
Skylar eagerly took her seat, ready to dive into the meal. Despite the tension that seemed to linger in the air, she chose to ignore it, for now, focusing on the good food and company. After all, food and good company could be the perfect distraction from everything else.
