Chapter_46
Kenny’s deep breath of anger was all Skylar needed to hear before he thundered, “Say that again!”
Skylar raised a brow, her lips curving into a half-smile. “You’re not that old, yet it seems you’ve got a lot of health issues. I suggest you get a check-up at the hospital—your ears and brain aren’t functioning like normal.”
She ended the call swiftly. No good could come from continuing a conversation with someone like Kenny—he would only have more insults to hurl her way.
Though the phone call left her feeling somewhat satisfied, a dull ache lingered in her chest. These were people she had once tried so hard to get along with.
Shaking herself out of it, she clicked her tongue, realizing how blind she had been before.
Back at the Williams family’s house, Kenny clenched his teeth, fuming. His charming face twisted into a deep frown. “What did she say? Is she still being stubborn? Does she never think about the consequences? How can I have such a vile young sister?”
Samuel’s expression darkened, mirroring a brewing storm. “So, she’s not going to delete her post or apologize to Maisy, huh?”
Maisy, who had been quiet up until then, bit down on her lower lip, frustration and anger flashing in her eyes. She was burning with curiosity over what had given Skylar the audacity to do this.
“What did she say exactly?” Sadie asked, her voice laced with concern.
“She stood her ground and refused to delete the post. She even insulted me,” Kenny snarled, his anger barely contained.
Samuel’s jaw tightened. “Skylar won’t listen to reason, and she’s ignoring our instructions. If this thing trends, we’ll need to do PR damage control. We can’t let this become a scandal.” He paused, then decisively added, “We’ll make sure Skylar is the one humiliated in the end. Maisy can’t be the target of online hate.”
Maisy, her expression softening, muttered, “Thanks, Samuel.”
Peter, who had been mostly silent, frowned, clearly puzzled. “Skylar doesn’t seem like the type to make such a rash move. Let’s check her social media. Maybe she’s just being arrogant now but will delete it later.”
The family spent the next half hour checking Skylar’s Instagram over and over again. To their growing frustration, nothing had changed. Skylar hadn’t deleted the post.
By then, the terms “the other woman” and “cheater” were trending online. The topic had exploded on TikTok, with almost everyone in Jipsburg City seeing screenshots of Skylar’s post.
Maisy’s phone lit up with a barrage of incoming calls and messages, all asking why she had become the “other woman.” Everyone had looked into Christopher’s background and knew he was just a clerk at a small company. They couldn’t understand why Maisy, of all people, would be interested in someone like him.
“What? Why is everyone believing this lie?” Maisy whined, turning to the Williams family for support.
Sadie’s phone also buzzed with incoming alerts. Everyone who reached out to her was asking about the affair, adding to her growing stress.
With a deep breath, Sadie turned to her three sons. “Resolve this matter now! Make sure everyone knows that Skylar photoshopped that picture!”
“Got it,” the three men replied in unison.
Maisy, her phone clutched tightly in her hand, hung her head low, a murderous rage flashing in her eyes. “You’re asking for it, Skylar! I’m going to make you the most hated person in Jipsburg. Everyone’s going to avoid you like the plague!”
Her fingers flew across the screen as she texted Christopher on WhatsApp.
In the afternoon, Caleb finally approached Skylar, holding his phone out to her. “Skylar, look! People have screenshotted your post. They’ve even reposted it on TikTok and Facebook!”
Skylar glanced at the screen, her expression unreadable. She had known this would happen, though she hadn’t expected it to spread so quickly. Her followers from Jipsburg City—especially those who knew Maisy—had wasted no time in sharing it.
“They deserve it. That cheater and his other woman made their own bed,” Caleb said, his voice filled with unwavering support. He couldn’t believe Christopher would try to salvage anything after his actions had been exposed.
Skylar nodded, her eyes steely with resolve. “They’ll get exactly what they deserve.”
