Chapter_55
“Yes, that’s her. You know, Grandpa, I think she might be even better than you!” Caleb said, his tone full of conviction. He wasn’t exaggerating in his mind.
Daniel had shared that, despite meeting many restorers, none had the practical skills that Skylar possessed. Many of them were overly confident, but their abilities didn’t match up. He had asked Skylar about her mentor, and she had only said she learned from an elderly woman in the countryside.
Alexander was skeptical, as always. Caleb, known for his wild ways, often praised people with no real basis. To hear that Skylar was supposedly better than many established restorers, despite her young age, seemed far-fetched to him.
He waved dismissively. “Hurry up and leave. You’re getting in my way.”
“Grandpa, I wake up so early to run six miles just to catch the bus. My thighs are getting muscular from all that running. Have some pity on me and return my car keys!” Caleb pleaded, hoping to use this as leverage.
But Alexander wasn’t having it. “Leave.”
Afraid of getting another smack, Caleb dashed off quickly.
Meanwhile, at Williams Residence, Maisy had set an early alarm despite not being a morning person. The events surrounding Skylar had kept her awake all night. She was still uneasy about the possibility that Skylar might have evidence to back up her claims.
However, with the Williams family’s PR and legal teams in control, Maisy was confident that taking down Skylar would be easy. The real issue was Christopher, who still hadn’t followed through with her request to post a denial about their involvement.
She called him up, frustration seeping into her voice. “Why haven’t you posted anything on Facebook? If you just deny everything, this matter will blow over.”
Christopher had been up all night, his mind preoccupied with thoughts of Skylar. He had been waiting for Skylar to call, but when she didn’t, Maisy’s call came instead.
“The company knows about this too. They’ve told me not to come in for work. Who knows if I’ll lose my job over this?” Christopher’s voice was tired, a hint of worry creeping in.
Maisy’s patience was thinning. “This isn’t about a Facebook post! She’ll listen to you. She’s obedient, isn’t she? Just coax her after this is all over. You want to see her ruin my reputation, don’t you?”
Christopher didn’t want to see Maisy upset. Though still torn, he finally gave in. “Fine, I’ll do it. But I want to see what Skylar plans to do next. She’s always trusted me, and I think I can turn things around.”
Maisy’s voice hardened. “Just make it happen, Christopher.”
Back in her room, Skylar stared at her screen in frustration. Every attempt to post her videos had been blocked. Her accounts had been reported, and her posting privileges were temporarily suspended.
She exhaled sharply, her face falling as she realized the extent they were willing to go to disrupt her plans.
“They’ll stop at nothing,” she muttered to herself.
Her phone buzzed, interrupting her thoughts. It was Steven. “Why haven’t you posted the videos yet?”
Skylar sighed and explained the situation—how her accounts had been reported and her ability to post had been restricted.
Steven paused for a long moment, his frown deepening. “They’re playing dirty, but we’ll find a way around it,” he said, though his voice held a trace of concern.
