Chapter_59
Sadie’s voice was laced with suspicion as she questioned Maisy. “Are you telling the truth?”
Maisy, trying to maintain her composure, responded quickly, “Why would I lie, Mom? You’ve seen the videos. Christopher was the one who kissed me.” Her lips quivered slightly as she kept her face innocent and pleading, masking the growing anxiety inside. After all, it was just two videos—nothing concrete enough to condemn her.
The videos couldn’t reveal everything. They didn’t show the context or the conversation that took place. Maisy could still twist things in her favor. Skylar thought she could shift the tide by sending these videos? Maisy was confident that she could control the situation.
Sadie sighed in relief, the tension in her shoulders easing. “That’s good to know, then.”
Maisy saw an opportunity to dig her heels in deeper. She leaned forward slightly, her eyes wide with feigned vulnerability. “Mom, I’m sure Skylar hates me now. She’s always loved Christopher, but he’s turned his attention to me. That’s why she’s trying to ruin me.”
A wave of sadness swept over her features, though it was entirely manufactured. “I really don’t deserve this, Mom. She’s trying to destroy me. And now, these videos she sent to you? She won’t apologize, not publicly at least.”
Sadie, sensing her daughter’s pain, let out a helpless sigh. “You’re right. You’re a victim in all this too. Christopher should take the blame. As for Skylar, I’ll talk to her. I’ll make sure she apologizes. This whole mess wouldn’t have happened if she hadn’t gotten involved with that poor man in the first place.”
Maisy’s eyes glinted with something darker. “Do you think Skylar will even apologize, though?”
Her voice wavered slightly with uncertainty. The truth was, she wasn’t sure. Skylar was a wild card now, unpredictable and out of her control. Maisy was curious about where Skylar had been staying, what she had been doing. It unsettled her to think that Skylar might be slipping through her grasp.
Sadie’s frustration started to show, her impatience flaring. “It’s not about whether she wants to apologize. She doesn’t have a choice. We’ll make sure she does.”
Meanwhile, Christopher sat at his rented home, staring at his phone with unease. He had been waiting for Maisy’s call, and now it was finally here. As he looked at the half-edited statement on his phone, doubt gnawed at him. Skylar was slipping away from him, becoming harder to influence. He had hoped she would be pliable, but now, she seemed indifferent—disinterested.
The memories of their past interactions, where he could easily manipulate her, were fading. His grip on her was loosening, and it bothered him more than he wanted to admit.
Then, the call came. He answered it immediately, his voice tense.
“I want you to give your statement right now, Christopher. You need to post it immediately. Did you know that Skylar has videos of us kissing at the mall?”
Christopher froze. “What? She has videos? Wouldn’t that expose everything if she posted them? I’ll post my statement right away.”
Realization hit him like a wave. No wonder Skylar had been so distant lately. It was because she had already figured out the truth.
Maisy, however, was confident in her plan. “She won’t be able to post anything. We’ve already reported her account, so she can’t post anything right now—not even the videos. Even if she somehow starts posting again later, we’ll have everything under control. We can just edit the videos and twist them to make sure they don’t affect us.”
She leaned back, a smirk forming on her lips. “Do you really think my family hired all those PR and legal teams just for show?”
Christopher hesitated. “But her parents… they’re her biological parents. Can they really stand by and let everyone scold her?”
The mention of “biological parents” was like a stab to Maisy’s heart. Her face twisted in anger, and she snapped. “So what if they’re her biological parents? I’m the most important person to them. Skylar is nothing. Don’t you get it yet?”
Christopher’s resolve faltered. Maisy’s words were convincing. He nodded, now fully on board. “Okay, I’ll post my statement now.”
