Chapter_97
George chuckled at Gloria’s words, his eyes twinkling with amusement. “Well, you certainly know how to stir things up, don’t you?” he said with a playful tone. “But you’re right. Sometimes, it’s hard to tell with these young ones. They have their own ways of showing things.”
Gloria sighed, a wistful smile on her face as she looked back at where Skylar had just disappeared. “I just want what’s best for her, George. She’s been through a lot, and I can see she’s still figuring things out. As for Joe… who knows? He’s a good man, but he’s always been a bit hard to read. Maybe I just want her to be happy.”
George nodded thoughtfully, taking in Gloria’s words. “I understand. It’s not always easy to see your loved ones find their way, especially when you’ve been through so much yourself. But Skylar’s strong. And sometimes, love isn’t about rushing things. It’s about finding the right moment.”
Gloria leaned back in her chair, eyes distant as she reflected on the past. “We were so different when we were young, weren’t we? We didn’t hesitate, didn’t overthink. We followed our hearts, even if it meant facing hardships. But now, everything feels slower. Maybe it’s the wisdom of age or the fear of regret, but I wonder if we lost something along the way.”
George let out a soft laugh. “Maybe. But that’s the beauty of getting older, too. We can look back and appreciate the choices we made, even the mistakes. They’ve led us to where we are today. And where we are isn’t so bad, is it?”
Gloria smiled, looking over at George with a mixture of affection and affection for the past. “No, it’s not so bad. We’ve got good friends, good memories, and a lot of things to cherish. Like this beautiful house and our peaceful lives.”
Just then, Skylar returned, a smile on her face as she came through the door. “I told Joe I’d be right there. He’s waiting outside.”
“Good. Go and enjoy yourselves,” George said with a knowing smile, as if he could already picture the two of them enjoying the night at the hot spring resort.
Gloria waved her off. “Go on, Skye. Take your time. We’ll be here when you get back.”
As Skylar walked toward the door, she felt a sense of contentment. Despite the tensions and complexities of the day, there was a sense of warmth in the house—an underlying calm that made her appreciate these moments of peace and connection. Looking forward to the evening ahead, Skylar felt like she was slowly finding her place among these familiar faces, with each day bringing new opportunities for understanding and growth.
She stepped outside, her thoughts already on what awaited her with Joe.
