“Serves them right indeed. Why are you still here?” Skylar asked, her voice steady.
Caleb, who should’ve been off work an hour ago, scratched his head awkwardly. “I just… I was worried you’d be feeling down after dealing with a jerk like that.”
“He’s not worth it,” Skylar said, her tone firm. “Just go. I still need to visit the hospital.”
Skylar grabbed her bag and started walking outside, but Caleb followed her immediately. “Are you sure you’re okay, Skylar?”
Skylar gave him a brief glance and a reassuring smile. “Of course.”
In the car, Joe was busy going through his to-do list in his notebook. He had planned to work overtime, but with Gloria in the hospital, he had to catch up on his work during the ride.
As Paul continued working, Joe’s phone buzzed with a new Instagram notification. He opened it casually, but his eyes widened when he saw Skylar’s post from earlier that morning. That wasn’t the shocker, though. It was Maisy’s Facebook post that caught his attention.
It included a screenshot of a legal letter and a statement from Maisy, claiming that the photo Skylar had posted was photoshopped. To make matters worse, Williams Group had reshared this post.
Joe opened Facebook in disbelief, scanning the post. The situation had shifted drastically. Now, the tables were turned, and it was Skylar who was being targeted. Even her photo had been exposed.
He blinked in shock, muttering, “Isn’t Ms. Sullivan Jeffrey’s biological daughter? Who are her real parents? Or… is Maisy the Williams’ biological daughter?”
Paul looked up from his work when he heard Joe’s words. Without hesitation, he briefed him on everything that had happened.
Joe’s gaze turned icy as he processed the information. After a beat, he concluded, “Ms. Sullivan won’t be able to deal with the Williams family’s PR team, let alone their legal team.”
He examined the legal letter sent by the Williams family, his eyes narrowing. The deep, cold intensity in his stare was enough to make Paul shiver. Even after working alongside Joe for so long, Paul couldn’t help but feel the weight of his gaze.
“Gather proof of Christopher and Maisy being together, and get everything to me,” Joe ordered.
“Uh, sure. I’ll get on it now,” Paul replied quickly, sensing the urgency in Joe’s voice.
Meanwhile, Skylar was nearing the hospital when her phone rang. It was Janine.
“Where are you now, Skye? Should I come keep you company? Or you can come home—your brothers are back. Harvey’s staying at the dorm these days. It might help you feel better to be with family.”
Janine’s voice was soft and concerned, the way it always was when speaking to her beloved daughter.
“I’m on my way to visit Grandma Gloria. It’ll be late when I get home, so don’t wait for me to have dinner,” Skylar replied, her tone warm but tired. “Also, Mom, I’m sure you’ve seen the news online. Don’t worry about it. It’s nothing.”
Janine sighed with relief. “Okay. We’ll wait for you to come home.”
At the Yancey Residence, Steven and Charles were staring at their phones, watching the trending topic climb the charts. Charles glanced toward Janine, who was busy in the kitchen, and frowned.
“They hired a professional PR team,” he muttered to Steven.
Steven’s face darkened. “Stay calm. I’ve reached out to a few friends. They’re working on a solution.”
Charles nodded, his worry deepening. This wouldn’t be easy to resolve. Even though they knew Christopher was the one who’d cheated, the online public wouldn’t believe that. The Williams’ PR team was too efficient. They must have prepared their statement the moment Skylar made her post.
“They don’t deserve to be Skye’s parents,” Charles said angrily. “What kind of parents would treat their own daughter like this? She must be feeling miserable.”
Just then, Steven received a message. It was from the group he and his friends had set up to discuss solutions.
To his surprise, the “solution” they had come up with was for Skylar to apologize and minimize the damage on her side.
