Chapter_41
Skylar pulled over at a quiet corner on the street, her fingers already unlocking her phone. Her heart dropped when she saw the notification from Charles, alerting her to Christopher’s latest post. She clicked on it, her eyes scanning the message.
Christopher’s post was a carefully staged photo of him holding a glass of wine, a smirk playing on his lips. The caption read: “Some things are meant to stay, others should be left behind. You never know what you’ve lost until it’s gone.”
It wasn’t hard to piece together what he was implying. He had thrown another shot at her, playing the victim and trying to paint her as the one who’d let go of something precious. Her stomach twisted with frustration. Christopher had never been good at accepting responsibility, and this latest stunt was just another attempt to get under her skin.
Skylar took a deep breath, calming herself before responding to Charles. “Don’t let it get to you, Charles. I’ll deal with it. It’s nothing but nonsense.”
She texted him quickly, “Thanks for the heads up. I’ll handle it.” She didn’t need to explain more to him. He’d always been protective, but Skylar had learned to take care of herself long ago.
Her eyes narrowed as she looked at Christopher’s post again. It wasn’t just the message that irritated her—it was the way he thought he could control her narrative even after everything had ended. He didn’t know her. He didn’t understand the strength she had to walk away from him.
After a few moments, Skylar turned the phone off and tucked it away in her bag. She took a few steadying breaths, letting the annoyance pass through her. Today was about business, not dealing with Christopher’s petty games.
With a quick glance at the time, she continued her drive toward the antique street, determined to keep her focus on the task ahead. There were things that mattered far more than his childish antics. She was ready to put it all behind her, as soon as she could.
