After Christopher’s statement was posted, the internet was flooded with another wave of insults directed at Skylar. The most shocking of all was a suggestion that she be admitted to a psychiatric hospital. So-called “professionals” even weighed in, labeling her as delusional. They claimed she was so obsessed with her boyfriend that the mere presence of another woman by his side became a threat she imagined in her mind. These people had no idea what they were talking about, yet their words quickly spread like wildfire.
The moment Christopher’s statement went live, it became the hottest trending topic on social media, with countless people joining the chorus of condemnation. Skylar was at the center of it all, and it felt like everyone had turned against her.
Inside the car, Joe was scrolling through his phone, his face dark and focused. The tension in the vehicle was palpable. The driver dared not even breathe too loudly, sensing the heavy atmosphere. Paul got into the car mid-journey, immediately noticing the shift in Joe’s mood. He glanced at Joe’s phone screen, taking in the sight of the online chaos surrounding Skylar.
Paul, ever perceptive, couldn’t hide his frustration. “Mr. Martin, these so-called ‘professionals’ spreading lies online—they’re really stirring up my sense of justice. I’ve already found people to expose them. I couldn’t just sit back and watch the public be deceived. The companies they’re working with will release a statement in under an hour, and these liars won’t be able to talk any nonsense again.”
Joe turned off his phone screen, his expression unreadable. He then rolled down the window, lit a cigarette, and let the cool air calm his nerves. Despite Paul’s eagerness to take action, Joe remained thoughtful. His mind was wrestling with the situation. He felt the impulse to protect Skylar, but he also didn’t want to create more confusion or misunderstandings in the process.
After a few minutes of tense silence, Joe finally spoke, his voice cold and controlled. “Don’t take any drastic actions. Just make sure the rumors die down. That’s enough for now.”
Paul was taken aback. He had thought Joe would do more to help Skylar, but his words indicated otherwise. Had Joe changed his mind about intervening?
Meanwhile, Skylar was driving away from Galaxy Villa, preparing for the next step in her fight. She had informed Daniel that she’d be a bit late but was still on her way to the police station. As she drove, her phone buzzed incessantly with messages and calls. Among them, Natalie’s message stood out. It was a screenshot of Christopher’s statement, which he had posted on social media.
Christopher’s statement was a slap in the face. He painted Skylar as an obsessive, jealous woman who imagined threats where there were none. He had even apologized on behalf of Maisy, claiming that she was an innocent victim dragged into Skylar’s drama. “Christopher is such a jerk! He has no conscience at all!” Natalie’s message read. “I’ve updated my Facebook post earlier. I’ll vouch for you, Skye.”
Even though Skylar had mentally prepared herself for the worst, the weight of the betrayal still hit her like a punch to the gut. Her chest tightened as she stared at the screen, her anger boiling beneath the surface. But she knew she couldn’t let this break her.
She thanked Natalie, then quickly ended the call, her focus returning to the road ahead. As soon as she hung up, her phone rang again. It was Sadie.
Skylar could hear the change in Sadie’s tone, no longer the arrogance from before. This time, there was a calculated calmness to her voice. “I’m sure you’ve been through a lot, Skye. It’s all your boyfriend’s fault. He’s the one who caused all this. Maisy is completely innocent, and you can’t blame her.”
Skylar clenched the steering wheel, her grip tightening as Sadie continued, “Now that it’s all come to this, you should just apologize. Once you post your apology, we’ll make sure the trending topic dies down. Then we’ll send you overseas to study. Your father will arrange a position for you when you return, and we’ll make sure you marry well. Even though it feels like you’re losing now, you won’t actually be at a loss.”
Skylar couldn’t hold back her laughter, a bitter, disbelieving laugh that filled the car. “What are you laughing at?” Sadie demanded, her voice rising.
Skylar took a moment to compose herself, then responded coolly, “I’m laughing at how crazy you people are, fantasizing like that.”
Sadie was outraged. “How rude, Skye! Who taught you to speak to me like that? I’m your mother!”
Skylar’s patience had reached its limit. She wasn’t going to be intimidated anymore. “Maisy was the one who went overboard. You’re the one who couldn’t see right from wrong, Mrs. Williams. There’s no sign of any decent upbringing on any of you people in the Williams family. Do you really think you deserve to say I was being rude?”
There was a cold satisfaction in her voice now. She wasn’t done. “Tell Maisy that she’s gone too far. I’d love to see how she handles it when it all backfires on her.”
The words hung in the air like a challenge. Skylar wasn’t going to back down. She had been pushed too far, and now, she would stand her ground.
