Chapter 241
“Nancy told me that Floyd hasn’t touched her in a long time,” Natalie continued, her voice tinged with discomfort. “Ever since she gave birth, he’s disliked her for not being in shape. He even told her she looked ugly after giving birth and couldn’t forget the sight of it.”
Skylar frowned, her heart aching for Nancy. Natalie, on the other hand, seemed uneasy. “That’s horrible,” she murmured. “I don’t think I could ever let myself end up in that situation. I’m afraid Jeremy would end up detesting me too, and I’d lose myself in the process.”
She paused, her thoughts turning inward. “I plan to focus on work. I just graduated, and I’m not ready for a baby yet.”
“What did Nancy decide to do?” Skylar asked, hoping for a resolution in Nancy’s story.
“She told her family everything and is preparing to divorce Floyd. She’s collecting evidence of his cheating,” Natalie said with a sigh. “She’s also planning to open a children’s dance training institution. She says she doesn’t want to lose her true self anymore.”
Skylar nodded, respecting Nancy’s determination. “It’s good she’s focusing on herself now.”
Natalie sighed deeply, her voice tinged with worry. “I feel so uncomfortable hearing about her situation. Skylar, are there any good men left in this world? I’m starting to question whether Jeremy is really the one I thought he was.”
Skylar gently comforted her, “Nancy is strong. What’s done is done. The best thing she can do now is figure out her path and move forward with her life.”
Natalie nodded, her voice quiet. “She’s so strong. If I had been in her shoes, I don’t know if I could’ve handled it. I may not show it, but I’m really scared sometimes. What if Jeremy betrayed me too?”
Skylar’s mind wandered briefly as she recalled the mention of “Mr. Hughes” at the hot spring hotel. Could that have been a coincidence?
Noticing Skylar’s distracted expression, Natalie asked, “Are you thinking about yourself now? Christopher is a scumbag. He won’t get a good ending. You can always start over, just like Nancy!”
Skylar was momentarily taken aback. “I’m married. Really married.”
Natalie waved it off with a grin. “Are you married to nothing? Look, I won’t lie to you—my cousin is a lot better than Christopher. Remember the one I told you about? The one with the eight-pack abs? He’s coming over soon. He’s seen your photos and said he fell in love with you at first sight!”
Skylar blinked in shock. “Your cousin is coming over?”
“Yes,” Natalie confirmed. “Didn’t I tell you two days ago? I want to introduce you. Don’t worry, he’s a police officer. If Christopher dares to harass you again, my cousin will protect you and teach him a lesson.”
Skylar shook her head in amusement. “I’m really married, Natalie. Seriously.”
Natalie ignored her, grinning widely. “But he’s so much better than Christopher. I’m telling you, this is how a good man looks!”
Before Skylar could respond, a man who was over six feet tall walked in and called out, “Nath.”
Natalie turned and smiled. “Come here, Elliott! Skylar got here before you. Didn’t you say you’d arrive half an hour earlier?”
Elliott Turner walked over, looking slightly flustered. “I had something to do first, so I stopped by the police station.”
When he saw Skylar, he paused for a second, impressed by her beauty. He was used to facing criminals, but this woman was even more stunning in person than in her photos. For a moment, he felt like he might not be her ideal match.
“Hello, Ms. Sullivan. I’m Nath’s cousin, Elliott,” he said, extending his hand.
Skylar smiled politely and shook his hand. “Hello, I’m Skylar, Nath’s friend.”
Natalie watched the exchange with a knowing smile, convinced that they were a perfect match. “Lend me your phone, Skylar,” she said with a mischievous glint in her eye.
Skylar unlocked her phone and handed it to Natalie. “What are you planning to do?”
“I’ll take some photos of you two together,” Natalie said, already grinning. “I’m going to post them on Instagram to make Christopher jealous.”
