Chapter 293: The Final Straw
“This is between Skye and me. Outsiders should stay out of it!” Christopher snapped, his voice cold and stern as his face hardened.
Skylar’s expression remained indifferent. She had grown numb to his presence, especially with how often he had shown up uninvited.
“I forgive you,” she said flatly, her tone distant.
Caleb’s concern was clear. “Sky-”
Before Caleb could say more, Alexander stopped him with a firm hand. “Let her finish.”
Alexander knew Skylar wasn’t someone easily influenced by words alone. If she hadn’t known Christopher’s true character, maybe she would have been more forgiving. But after everything she had learned about him, forgiveness seemed far out of reach. Besides, she was already married to Joe.
“Wait, you really forgive me?” Christopher’s eyes lit up, his voice full of hope.
Skylar’s gaze remained icy as she responded, “The only way I could forgive you is if you… drop dead right now.”
Caleb couldn’t help but laugh at Skylar’s unflinching directness. She was unapologetically blunt.
Christopher stared at her in disbelief. “Skye… after all these years? It was just one mistake. A mistake all men make. Do you really hate me this much?”
“Security, escort this man to the police station and make sure he never comes near our employees again,” Alexander instructed the security guard who had approached.
“Yes, Mr. Gardner Senior!” the head of security replied, immediately moving toward Christopher.
Skylar turned to Alexander with a soft nod. “Sorry you had to witness that.”
She had underestimated Christopher’s shamelessness. The audacity of him, claiming that it was “just a mistake” that all men made, was infuriating.
A mistake all men make?
Skylar’s frustration deepened as she thought about the situation. Despite everything, Christopher didn’t seem financially desperate. After Amelia’s surgery, he should have been struggling to pay off debts. Yet, he seemed unaffected by money issues.
A troubling thought crossed her mind—could Christopher have profited from that video he’d made with Maisy? It was possible he’d used the footage for his own gain, regardless of the harm it caused.
As the thought lingered, a vision of Christopher and Maisy turning on each other, caught in a cycle of betrayal and revenge, flashed through her mind.
Skylar’s gaze grew colder as she stared at the traffic light in front of her, her thoughts hardening with every passing second.
Meanwhile, at Martin Group, Joe finished signing the last of the documents and called Paul into his office.
“What’s the situation with the Williams family?” Joe asked, his tone serious.
“They should be on the brink of bankruptcy by now,” Paul replied. “I haven’t been following closely, but I can check the latest updates.”
Paul was caught off guard by Joe bringing up the Williams family. Recently, Joe had seemed unusually upbeat, a noticeable change from his usual stoic demeanor. Paul couldn’t help but think that it might have something to do with Skylar.
“Don’t give the Williams family any breathing room,” Joe said, his voice filled with authority.
“Understood. I’ll take care of it immediately,” Paul replied, a chill creeping down his spine. Joe’s methods were ruthless, and Paul knew if the Williams family didn’t catch a break, their debts would soon overwhelm them.
It was all so preventable. If only the Williams family had treated Skylar with more kindness, things could have turned out differently for them.
Once Paul left, Joe pulled out his phone and checked his WhatsApp messages.
