Chapter 265
Annie was full of herself. Where did her sense of superiority come from?
“I’ve looked into you, but it’s not what you think. I’m just offering you another option,” Annie said, unbothered by her own boldness, convinced she was in the right.
Skylar glanced at the time. There were still twenty minutes left. Joe was always punctual, so he should be arriving soon.
Seeing her glance at the clock, Annie’s tone shifted, her curiosity piqued. “You have a date here? With who?”
Skylar smiled, a hint of amusement in her eyes. “Haven’t you already figured that out?”
Annie’s face soured immediately.
“Think carefully about my proposal,” Annie continued, her voice laced with a mix of urgency and arrogance. “You won’t get another chance after today, even if you regret it. I’ve known Joe for a long time. You’ve just met him. You don’t understand the Martin family. They won’t accept a girl who grew up in the countryside marrying him. You can only be his plaything.”
Skylar’s patience was starting to wear thin. She usually prided herself on being calm, but Annie’s antics were grating on her nerves.
“Are you done?” Skylar asked, her tone sharp.
Annie snapped back, irritation evident. “Skylar, don’t test my patience.”
“I should be the one saying that, Ms. Silver,” Skylar shot back coldly. “Leave if you’re done. If you have any issues, go directly to Joe and stop bothering me.”
Annie’s expression faltered, but her pride wouldn’t let her back down. “Skylar, do you know what you’re doing?”
No one had ever demanded she leave before. This was a first.
“You’re the one who doesn’t know what you’re doing, Ms. Silver. It would be nice if you could use your brain for once. Until then, stay in your lane and stop causing trouble for others. I don’t have time for your games,” Skylar retorted, her voice unwavering.
Annie’s anger flared, her eyes narrowing. “Skylar, you’re being unreasonable!”
“There’s no need to be reasonable since you keep coming after me. You wouldn’t understand reason anyway,” Skylar said, exasperated.
As a TV host, Annie should have been sharp and quick-witted, yet Skylar found her lack of common sense astounding.
Annie took a deep breath, her face turning pale with fury. “I didn’t realize you were so greedy. Fine, I’ll indulge you this once.” She looked at Skylar with an expression that screamed condescension. “Consider it charity from the Silver family to a beggar.”
“Name any condition you want!” she said, her voice dripping with disdain.
Skylar thought for a moment. There weren’t many arrogant people like those in the Williams family, but apparently, there were others just as bad, if not worse.
Skylar raised an eyebrow. “Don’t bother me unless you’re offering a billion dollars.”
Annie’s face twisted with disbelief. “Are you crazy? Skylar, it won’t do you any good to offend the Silver family. Now you’re relying on Mr. Martin’s favor to act recklessly, demanding a billion dollars? Your greed knows no bounds. If Mr. Martin knew how insatiable you are, he’d surely get rid of you.”
Skylar’s expression remained cool and unaffected, though inside, she couldn’t help but find Annie’s arrogance almost amusing.
She shrugged nonchalantly. “Mind your own business. You’re too young to be acting like a wicked stepmother.”
“Skylar!” Annie’s voice rose, full of fury.
