The message from Joe was simple: He had asked Paul to give Skylar the day off since she was too tired to work.
Alexander immediately understood what this implied. Young people were always quite active, but Caleb might struggle to accept it if Alexander explained further.
Caleb pursed his lips, clearly frustrated. “Then I’ll come back tomorrow!” he said firmly, determined to see Skylar. He suspected that Skylar might be secretly married and didn’t want anyone to know. If it was a secret marriage, it implied that she couldn’t be that deeply in love. Caleb reasoned that if he married someone he truly loved, he wouldn’t keep it a secret. He was still young and believed he had a chance.
When Skylar woke up again, it was already 2:00 pm. The soft sound of Joe answering a phone call stirred her from sleep. She groggily heard him greet the caller as “Grandma,” and that was enough to fully wake her.
Joe’s voice carried through the room. “We won’t be going back to Pearlhall Residence tonight. We’re eating at home today. I’ve already ordered food. Skye’s too tired from last night. We’ve been sleeping in since morning.”
Skylar’s eyes widened as she slowly became more aware. She was mortified. She wasn’t ready to face Gloria, especially after everything that had happened.
Gloria, on the other end of the line, was clearly surprised by the news. “Tired? Sleeping in? Is it what I think it is?”
Joe’s smirk was audible in his response. “What do you think it is, Grandma?”
“You rascal! Be gentle with Skylar, you hear me?” Gloria scolded, her voice full of mock severity before hanging up.
Gloria quickly called for Agatha. “You’ll have more work over the next couple of days. Make sure the kitchen prepares some nourishing foods and delivers them to the Galaxy Villa. My grandson doesn’t know how to hold back.”
Agatha was taken aback. “Yes, madam. I’ll get on it right away.”
Meanwhile, as Joe was on the phone with Gloria, Skylar wrapped a towel around herself, trying to regain some composure.
When Joe finished the call and turned back, he saw Skylar about to leave the room.
“Did I wake you up?” he asked, his voice soft.
Skylar stopped and quickly looked at him, trying to keep her thoughts composed.
“No, I just woke up,” she said firmly, pretending she hadn’t overheard any part of the conversation.
Joe smiled and walked toward her. “I’ll get you some clothes. It’s uncomfortable walking around like that.”
Skylar’s gaze shifted, only to realize that Joe wasn’t wearing a shirt. She froze, shocked to see scratches on his chest. Her mind couldn’t fathom how those marks had gotten there. Quickly, she looked away.
Fortunately, Joe had a towel wrapped around his waist, which gave her some relief, though the sight was still indecent enough to make her blush.
“No, no, I can do it myself. My room is just next door,” she said, her voice hurried as she attempted to leave.
In her rush, she pulled a muscle and winced in pain. “Ah!” she cried out.
Without a second thought, Joe scooped her up in his arms.
“Dr. Grey will bring some medicine soon. Applying it will make you feel better,” he said, his voice apologetic. “I’m sorry, I couldn’t control myself last night.”
Skylar, still feeling the discomfort from both the events of the night and her current state, muttered, “Likewise…”
As Joe lifted her, her eyes inadvertently met the marks on his chest. She couldn’t help but realize that she, too, had been quite wild the previous night.
