Amelia rolled her eyes in exasperation, no longer bothering to keep up appearances since her son wasn’t around.
Once Skylar and Christopher reconciled, she was determined to make sure Skylar came to the hospital to care for her. Skylar could forget about her job—no job was more important than taking care of Amelia.
Once Christopher returned to work, Skylar would have to stay home and care for both of them. Then, Amelia would have the perfect opportunity to control her, just like before.
Meanwhile, Christopher had just hung up the phone and entered the Gardner Group building. The security guard on duty that day was new and didn’t recognize Christopher, who had come to see Skylar.
“I’d like to see Skylar Sullivan. Can you let her know I’m here?” Christopher asked politely.
The guard hesitated. “I haven’t seen Ms. Sullivan today. She might have taken the day off,” he replied, remembering something about it being mentioned at the front desk.
Christopher was taken aback. “She took the day off? It’s Monday. She should definitely be at work.”
He suspected that Skylar had somehow instructed the guard to make an excuse whenever he showed up. She must be deeply disappointed in him.
In that case, he decided to wait. There were only a couple of hours left in the workday, and he wanted to see how Skylar would avoid him.
The guard, sensing Christopher’s frustration, suggested, “You could try calling her to check if something’s wrong.”
Christopher shot him a cold glance but didn’t respond. Instead, he walked to a corner where he could watch people leaving the building, deciding to wait there.
He pulled out his phone and dialed a number—though it wasn’t Skylar. She had blocked him, and no matter what number he used, she wouldn’t answer.
Instead, he called Maisy. If he was going to live in misery, he’d make sure to drag her down with him.
Maisy was at the mall, shopping with a man—one of her college suitors who was now pursuing her. When she saw Christopher’s call, she frowned. Excusing herself, she told the man she needed to use the restroom and stepped inside to take the call.
“I don’t think you should be calling me,” Maisy said, annoyed.
“Oh, but I do,” Christopher sneered. “Check your messages. I sent you a video. Enjoy. Maisy, you look so innocent on the outside, but I didn’t expect you to be so wild.”
Maisy’s anger flared as she listened. “Christopher, what is this? I gave you a million to delete the last video, and now you’re blackmailing me again? Do you want me to get a lawyer and send you to jail?”
She was furious. Could he really think he could keep threatening her like this?
Christopher, unbothered, smirked. “I deleted the previous video. This one is new. Watching it makes me sick, so I’m sharing it with you. This time, I want 500 thousand dollars. Pay up, and I’ll delete it.”
Maisy’s voice was sharp with rage. “Christopher, you better make sure that video is worth 500 thousand. If it isn’t, I won’t let you off easily!”
