Chapter 269
The middle-aged man, standing nearby, was drenched in sweat, his back soaked from the mounting tension. It seemed the drug was taking effect, but there was one problem—there was another woman present who was distracting Joe’s attention.
Joe seemed far more interested in this new woman than the others. He barely glanced at his daughter, who was trying to capture his attention. She was beautiful, with an ethereal grace that could be compared to an angel descending from the heavens. Any man would have wanted to claim her as his own. He rarely allowed her to be seen in public, fearing others would covet her. In his mind, she was meant to marry someone who could benefit him, someone who would elevate his position.
The woman, who had been playing the flute, grew anxious. She was used to being the center of attention. Everyone who had ever heard her play praised her talent. She had always performed at prestigious events during her college years and had even been voted the most beautiful student on campus. Now, she was a star in the entertainment industry, adored by many. How could she possibly be overshadowed by a woman she had never seen before?
Despite her attempts, Joe didn’t even spare her a second glance. Her face flushed with frustration.
Skylar, on the other hand, was starting to feel uncomfortable. She needed to leave. The strange sensation she was feeling reminded her of a time before her rebirth when Maisy and Christopher had drugged her. That drug had been potent, causing uncontrollable desire and confusion. While the feeling wasn’t as intense now, it still left her with an overwhelming urge to undress.
She couldn’t understand why she would be drugged while dining with Joe. It didn’t make sense.
Taking a deep breath, she said, “I don’t feel well, Joe. Let’s go home.”
“Okay,” Joe replied, his eyes bloodshot. He stood and began moving toward her.
Before he could take another step, someone interrupted him.
“Mr. Martin, I haven’t finished playing yet. Could you please listen to the rest of the piece?” The woman’s voice was soft, almost pleading.
The middle-aged man, growing more desperate, looked at his two remaining daughters and ordered, “Take this lady upstairs to the hotel to rest.” His plans had already been set into motion, and there was no turning back now.
The two sisters approached Skylar, trying to offer support.
Skylar, however, was having none of it. “Get lost!” she snapped.
She quickly figured out who had drugged her. She wasn’t foolish.
“You don’t look well. You should rest for a bit,” one of the sisters insisted. “There’s a hotel upstairs. Maybe you’ve caught a cold.”
Their plan was clear now—they intended to send a few men to her room later. After all, someone as beautiful as Skylar could easily ruin their father’s plans, and they couldn’t afford that.
Skylar pressed her lips together, ready to shove them away again. But before she could react, Joe kicked one of the women aside.
Her scream echoed through the room as the middle-aged man tried to intervene. But it was too late—Joe’s fist connected with the man’s face in a powerful punch, causing several of his false teeth to fly out.
“Dad!” one of the daughters screamed.
The scene quickly descended into chaos. Restaurant staff rushed in, alarmed by the commotion. They froze at the sight of Joe standing over the man, who was writhing in pain on the floor.
Joe coldly addressed the manager, his voice firm. “Send them to the police station. Have these dishes tested, and deal with this immediately.”
The manager, clearly nervous, nodded quickly. “Mr. Martin, don’t worry. I’ll handle everything accordingly.”
