Chapter 260
Talk about fate!
Skylar had been joking around with that fake marriage certificate, claiming she’d married Joe. Now, the very man she’d been pretending to marry was standing right in front of her!
Suddenly, an outrageous thought blossomed in Natalie’s mind. “Skye and Joe must be fated for each other, right?”
It was the only explanation for how two people from completely different social circles seemed to keep bumping into one another. In fact, the fake marriage certificate might just be more real than Skylar had let on!
Skylar turned to where Natalie was pointing and saw Joe standing across the way. It looked like golf was one of his hobbies.
“Oh? Is that Annie?” Natalie asked in surprise. “Skye, you’re out of the running. It looks like the rumors are true. Annie really is Joe’s girlfriend. They’re playing golf together.”
Natalie had heard whispers about their relationship but hadn’t believed them—until now. The evidence was right in front of her.
Skylar only noticed Annie when Natalie brought her up. From their distance, they could see Joe and Annie, but couldn’t make out what they were discussing.
“Joe? Is that Mr. Martin of the Martin Group?” Charles asked, craning his neck to get a better look at the man they were staring at.
He had heard that the Martin Group had invested in the movie he was working on, but no one dared to talk about Joe openly.
“That’s him, alright,” Natalie confirmed, nodding for emphasis. Her face wore an expression of ruefulness.
Skylar had certainly looked like a perfect match with Joe in that fake marriage certificate. And based on everything, it seemed Skylar liked him too. After all, why else would she have photoshopped Joe as her groom?
Skylar tilted her head as she watched Joe and Annie. What were they doing here?
“What is it, Skye?” Charles asked, noticing that Skylar seemed lost in thought while staring at Joe and Annie.
“Oh, it’s nothing, Charles. Do you have any other scenes to shoot today?” Skylar asked, pulling her gaze away from the couple.
Charles grinned. “Nope. I was planning to golf and have some fun with you guys.”
However, Skylar wasn’t eager to bump into Annie and Joe. She didn’t want to make things awkward. So, she suggested, “Why don’t we take a walk instead? I’m not really into golf.”
“Sure thing,” Charles agreed.
As they started walking away, Joe’s gaze swept over Skylar, just as she had turned her head. His eyes were unreadable, though he seemed to linger on her for a moment.
Was Skylar not concerned about seeing him with Annie?
“Mr. Martin, please, give me another chance,” Annie pleaded, her eyes red from tears.
She had never been so meek in her life. Though she had admired Joe for years, this was a side of herself she never thought she’d show.
She didn’t want to appear so humble, but she knew that if the Silver family lost their influence in Jipsburg, she might never have another opportunity like this.
Still, she couldn’t help but wonder: what made Skylar so special? She was just a simple country girl.
Joe closed his eyes and looked away from Skylar before turning his full attention back to Annie.
“Why bother sowing seeds if you can’t lie in your bed of roses?” he said, his voice cold and final. Without another word, he turned and walked away, leaving Annie standing there, her face drained of color.
Annie rushed after him, desperate to fix things, but it was clear Joe had already made up his mind.
