Skylar struggled to keep a smile on her face, silently pleading, Please, don’t bring up yesterday. When she turned to face Joe earlier, her eyes unintentionally flickered to his lips. Her mind immediately drifted back to the kiss they had shared the previous night.
“I won’t be having dinner tonight. Bye!” she said quickly, before dashing out of the room. She had never fled so fast in her life.
Joe raised an eyebrow, amused by her hasty departure. Skylar’s always quick on her feet.
Skylar had promised Natalie that she would visit Charles that day. Charles’ scene was being shot at a golf course, and Natalie, an avid fan of actor Austin Powell, was eager to come along. When she overheard Skylar’s conversation with Charles the day before, she immediately begged to join. She even claimed that Jeremy had been busy these past few days and that she desperately needed some entertainment. Visiting her favorite actor would do the trick.
Skylar remembered their university days, when Natalie would constantly talk about Austin. He wasn’t the type of actor with the delicate features that were popular in the entertainment industry. Instead, he had a rugged, manly look. According to Natalie, Austin had been practicing martial arts since childhood and had pursued a military career before retiring and entering the entertainment industry. What made him stand out even more was that he did all his stunts without a stunt double.
Skylar had to admit, both Natalie and Charles admired him, and she couldn’t deny that she found Austin intriguing as well.
She picked up Natalie, and the two of them headed to the set. Throughout the drive, Natalie was on a video call with Jeremy, chatting away. The way Jeremy patiently listened to her showed how much he loved her. Skylar’s worries about their relationship seemed unnecessary—if anything, the two of them were inseparable. By the time Natalie ended the call, they had already arrived.
“Look at the two of you,” Skylar teased as they got out of the car. “Does your husband know you’re visiting Austin?”
Natalie grinned. “There’s no need to tell him about this. I’m afraid he’d get jealous. Jeremy’s a bit territorial.”
Skylar laughed. She could easily imagine Jeremy sulking if he found out Natalie was meeting another attractive man.
“Charles told me Austin arrived 20 minutes ago,” Skylar continued, glancing at her watch. “He has a scene with Austin in ten minutes.”
“Then what are we waiting for? We might even get a chance to talk to him! Oh, how exciting!” Natalie squealed as she pulled out a box of homemade cookies, clearly thrilled by the idea of meeting her idol.
Skylar let out a dramatic sigh. “Cookies for Austin but none for me? How could you?”
“Oh, hush now,” Natalie teased. “We have to watch our diet, right?”
“I’m pretty sure he needs to watch his diet more than we do,” Skylar joked.
“Please. He can work off any extra calories after having some of these. I cut the sugar and butter by half, so they’re practically healthy. He won’t gain a single pound.”
Skylar raised an eyebrow. “I’m telling Mr. Hughes that his wife is baking cookies for another man.”
Natalie laughed and waved her off. “Take it all! You know I was just joking, right? I love you and Jeremy equally. I’ve made more cookies for you than I have for my idol!”
With that, she pulled out another large box of cookies from her bag, her smile full of affection for her best friend.
