Skylar didn’t get out of her car immediately. Instead, she kept her gaze fixed on the car that had been trailing her. The moment the driver seemed to realize she’d spotted them, they hesitated for a moment before stepping out of the car.
Annie appeared in high heels, carrying herself with an air of elegance and sophistication.
As soon as Skylar saw her, her expression hardened. Had Annie been following her since the golf course? What could her intentions be?
Annie walked confidently toward her car, completely unfazed. Skylar narrowed her eyes and asked, her voice cold, “How long have you been following me?”
Annie, as composed as ever, responded without hesitation. “From the golf course to here. About three hours.”
Skylar gave a small chuckle, her curiosity piqued. “Why are you following me?”
Annie smiled, almost smugly. “You should be able to guess. I followed you because of what happened last time. There was a misunderstanding, and before we could resolve it, Mr. Martin overheard our conversation. That led to a misunderstanding between him and me, causing him to distance himself from the Silver family.”
She paused, eyes locking with Skylar’s. “You’re the only one who can help me clear this up. I’ll meet any demand you have. I’ve insulted you with the money before, and I apologize for that.”
Despite the situation, Annie spoke with an air of arrogance, as though her request were more of an entitlement than a favor. Skylar couldn’t help but note the irony—Annie was asking for help, but doing so with the same haughty attitude she always carried. It was the first time Skylar had seen someone speak so eloquently about stalking and still maintain such an air of superiority.
Hadn’t the last incident taught Annie anything? Skylar wondered. As a TV host, she should have known better.
“I can’t help you,” Skylar answered flatly.
Annie frowned slightly but didn’t back down. “I saw the properties you visited today. They’re all average developments in Jipsburg City. Clearly, Mr. Martin hasn’t given you much money, and you’re not that important to him. He could get rid of you at any time.”
She continued, her voice full of self-assurance. “If I were you, I’d seize what I could while I had the chance. I can offer you a villa or a high-end apartment—either one would be far better than the properties you saw today.”
Skylar’s eyebrow arched as Annie spoke, and she leaned in, listening to every word.
Annie seemed to know a lot about her personal life. “I know you’re not on good terms with the Williams family, and they won’t offer you anything. I also know you’re on Mr. Gardner Senior’s team. Though joining his team will improve your future, you’re still new, and there’s a long road ahead. You probably don’t have the qualifications to take on serious work yet. Your adoptive mother’s financial situation is modest, so your options are limited.”
Skylar almost applauded Annie’s skill in manipulation—she was certainly a natural with words.
“My options may be limited,” Skylar said with a smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes, “but I can ask you for anything, right?”
Annie, still maintaining her haughty stance, nodded. “Yes, anything. I can even help your brother advance in the entertainment industry. He’s been in the business for years, but without proper connections, it’s hard to make it big. Many talented actors dream of success, but only a few make it.”
Skylar’s smile faded, and her tone grew colder. “You’ve done quite a thorough investigation on me.”
Annie, unaware of Skylar’s changing demeanor, replied confidently, “Your information isn’t hard to find.”
Skylar’s eyes narrowed, her patience beginning to wear thin. “Anyone who knows you would think you’re asking for my help. But those who don’t might believe you’ve dug up all this information to threaten me.”
Her smile was gone, replaced by a look of disdain. She hated people who thought they could control her with their knowledge.
