Chapter 242
Joe had just finished working out and was taking a coffee break when he checked his phone. His eyes widened when he saw Skylar’s latest Instagram post.
In the photo, Skylar stood next to a tall, upright man. The height difference made her appear petite, while the man gazed at her with tenderness. It was a simple shot, but Joe could tell the man liked her, and she seemed genuinely happy.
He wondered if this was the man Skylar had planned to meet today.
The photo quickly went viral. Caleb, seeing the post, felt a wave of conflicting emotions. He recognized Elliott—the man in the photo. Elliott had once interrogated him during a case involving the death of his friend. Caleb remembered how close he came to cracking under Elliott’s intense questioning. He was certain that if he hadn’t been innocent, he would’ve spilled all his secrets. Caleb now wondered: Was Elliott Skylar’s husband?
Skylar had blocked Christopher from seeing her posts, but they had mutual high school classmates. When they saw the photo, they immediately sent him a screenshot.
Christopher’s hands froze when he saw the photo. The stack of inspection reports he had been holding slipped from his grip and scattered across the floor. The man in the photo wasn’t Joe, as Maisy had mentioned. Christopher had never seen Elliott before, and he didn’t seem to fit the description of the wealthy “big shot” Maisy had implied.
He started to doubt everything. Had Maisy lied to him?
Meanwhile, Maisy was equally stunned. Why wasn’t the man Joe? Had they been wrong all along? She had never believed Skylar could win Joe’s favor, and now this photo seemed to prove her doubts.
Maisy didn’t speak her mind, though, because the Sullivans were with her. Someone had just sent her the Instagram post, and she couldn’t help but click on it. When she saw the photo, she couldn’t contain her excitement. If this was true, she wouldn’t have to keep pleasing the Sullivans anymore. She had been frustrated with Skylar and Joe’s apparent relationship, but now it seemed like all the fuss was based on fake news.
She decided not to waste any more energy on the Sullivans.
“Maisy, we have a room here. You can come back whenever you want,” Janine offered, noticing that Maisy had put her phone down.
Maisy inwardly rolled her eyes. She wanted to ridicule Janine for her cluelessness but kept her thoughts to herself. It would be better to corner Skylar instead. With the Sullivans around, she saw an opportunity to deceive them.
“Okay, I’ll come back to stay with you once Mrs. Williams is better. I just wonder if Charles and Harvey will welcome me,” Maisy said, glancing at Charles and Harvey.
