Gloria was surprised by how eager Joe seemed to take Skylar home. As she pondered the reason for his haste, her face flushed with embarrassment.
She had learned about the general situation from that day. Someone had drugged Joe, and coincidentally, Skylar was also affected. Both of them ended up together as a result. The maid who had gone to clean up at Galaxy Villa had mentioned that the two were now staying in the same room.
Gloria had been young once too, so she raised her hand and urged them, “Go on. I’m tired and need to rest. You two should enjoy your time together.” She figured it was best not to be the third wheel.
Skylar was a little confused. Was there something Joe needed to talk to her about? Why was he in such a hurry to leave?
With Gloria’s urging, they left Pearlhall Residence.
Once they were in the car, Skylar asked, “Why the rush? Is something wrong?” They hadn’t even had dinner yet. Skylar’s original plan had been to dine with Gloria at Pearlhall Residence.
Joe’s gaze darkened slightly, unsure of how to respond. When he saw Skylar at Pearlhall Residence, he had simply felt the urge to take her home. He couldn’t explain it, but the thought crossed his mind, and he was somewhat baffled by his own impulse.
After a brief pause, Joe replied, “Nothing’s wrong. I just thought we could eat some stew. There’s a restaurant under the group’s ownership, and they have seven or eight stew bases to choose from. Let’s see if there’s something you like.”
Skylar’s eyes lit up with excitement at the suggestion. “That sounds amazing! I’ve been craving stew for the past few days.”
The idea of choosing from seven or eight stew bases made her even more excited.
Thirty minutes later, they arrived at the restaurant. Despite being a stew restaurant, its décor was luxurious and met the high standards of the Martin Group. As soon as they entered, the rich aroma of the food filled the air.
Skylar and Joe made their way to a private room on the eighth floor. There, Skylar eagerly selected two stew bases that she liked, with the option to choose up to four. The variety of ingredients was far superior to what she had found in other similar restaurants.
Her eyes sparkled with delight—she was a true lover of stew.
“I’ve made my selection. See if there’s anything you’d like to try,” she said, brimming with anticipation.
Joe nodded in acknowledgment, his eyes scanning the menu carefully.
“I’m going to the restroom,” Skylar said as she stood up.
Joe glanced up at her, then returned to studying the menu. He ordered a mildly spicy stew base and a vegetable stew base—both choices that he would enjoy.
After placing their order, Joe casually waited for Skylar’s return and for the dishes to arrive.
A few minutes later, Skylar emerged from the restroom and began heading back to the private room. At that moment, Charles and his friend exited another room, also headed for the restroom. As they approached the door, Charles suddenly stopped.
“What’s the matter, Charles?” his friend asked.
Charles blinked in surprise. “I must have been mistaken. That couldn’t have been Skye.”
He had thought the woman who had just entered one of the private rooms resembled Skylar from behind. Charles had almost called out to her, but then he realized Skylar would unlikely dine in such an expensive restaurant. The cost of one meal here was more than enough to feed someone at a much simpler place for several days.
“Who’s Skye?” his friend asked, puzzled.
Charles chuckled lightly. “My sister. I thought the woman I saw earlier was her.”
He then pulled out his phone and sent a message to Skylar.
