Chapter 281
Maisy’s words caused Kenny’s expression to change. Without hesitation, he strode over and embraced her. Lowering his head, he kissed her gently.
“I don’t hate you, Maisy. I like you.”
As soon as those words left his lips, Maisy gave in to the kiss. She knew that with just a little charm, she could make any man fall for her. After all, she had grown up with Kenny, and she knew him inside out.
That day, as Skylar was preparing to leave work, she received a call from Steven. He told her he had the weekend off and asked her to come home, as he had some good news to announce. Charles would be there too, and Harvey had just finished his college entrance exams. It seemed like the perfect opportunity for the family to come together and celebrate.
Skylar agreed and decided to first visit Gloria at Pearlhall Residence.
Upon arriving at the villa, Skylar exchanged a few words with Gloria before the housekeeper, Agatha, brought her a bowl of soup.
“Mrs. Martin, this beef and lentil soup is packed with nutrients. I heard you’ve donated blood multiple times and might be feeling weak. This will help nourish your body,” Agatha said with a smile.
Gloria added, “Just have a little, Skylar. You might not be able to finish such a large bowl.”
The more Gloria looked at Skylar, the more admiration filled her heart. She couldn’t help but think that Skylar was remarkable. In such a short time, Joe had already fallen for her. At this rate, the prospect of having great-grandchildren seemed very possible.
After all, Joe had never shown interest in anyone unless they truly captured his attention. He had been pursued by dozens, perhaps hundreds of women over the years, and Gloria could have had plenty of great-grandchildren by now. But none of them could compare to Skylar.
Skylar accepted the bowl and took a sip. The soup was hearty and comforting, the earthiness of lentils perfectly complementing the tender beef. It was clear that Agatha had poured her heart into making it.
“This is delicious. Thank you, Agatha,” Skylar said, genuinely grateful. She wasn’t just being polite; it really was tasty.
Before her second chance at life, Skylar had often donated blood, but neither Sadie nor Jeffrey ever considered her well-being. They assumed she was young and healthy enough to bounce back quickly, so they never bothered to prepare any nourishing food for her.
But Gloria and Agatha had truly thought of her, and their care was sincere.
“As long as you like it, Mrs. Martin. I’ll have someone send it to Galaxy Villa every day from now on,” Agatha said, clearly pleased by Skylar’s gratitude.
When Joe arrived, he witnessed this heartwarming scene. As soon as Gloria saw him, she rolled her eyes in mock disdain.
“Why did you just arrive now?” she asked.
“I had some matters to attend to in the afternoon,” Joe replied.
Gloria huffed, clearly unimpressed. “Didn’t you get back from the airport at noon? Did you rush straight to the office? All you ever do is work. You should spend some time with Skylar.”
She knew her grandson all too well.
Skylar looked up at Joe, her mind wandering back to the other morning when she woke up to find him in her room. She couldn’t remember how he had asked her to move into his room, but at the time, she had just woken up, and her mind was sluggish. Despite her hesitation, she agreed.
However, on the day she moved into Joe’s room, he had left for a business trip, and they hadn’t seen each other for the past two days. She thought he would be away for a few more days, but to her surprise, he returned that very day.
Joe noticed Skylar’s gaze on him and met her eyes.
“Is the soup good?” he asked.
Skylar, still holding the half-full bowl of soup, nodded. “Yes, it’s delicious.”
Joe smiled and nodded in acknowledgment. “That’s good to hear.”
Gloria and Agatha exchanged surprised glances. They never imagined that Joe would take the initiative to show such concern for someone. Then, to their even greater surprise, Joe said, “Grandma, if there’s nothing urgent, we’ll take our leave now.”
Gloria, who had just taken a sip of water, was so startled by his words that she almost choked.
