“Maybe I was too blind to believe in you before, but I won’t waste any more time on you now. Get out of my way!” Skylar’s anger simmered just beneath the surface, her voice barely containing the rage.
She had listened patiently, not because she expected anything to change, but because she wanted to see just how shameless they could be. And now that she had heard them out, she felt a strange sense of relief. They were exactly as shameless as she had anticipated.
Amelia’s face twisted with bitterness. “Skye, how could you… what did we ever do to deceive you?” she said, clutching her chest dramatically, as if Skylar’s words had struck her deeply.
Christopher’s usually handsome face turned pale. He remembered what Maisy had said to him, the doubts she had planted in his mind. His lips trembled as he blurted, “You’ve changed. Was Maisy right? Have you been seeing someone else? Are you cheating on me?” He raised his voice, his tone full of disbelief and accusation.
He couldn’t fathom that Skylar would betray him. He thought she would never leave him—he never imagined she would resort to something like being a sugar baby.
“Skye, you were always the model student, the good girl. How could you just throw away what you and Christopher had for so many years?” Amelia continued, her voice dripping with self-righteousness. “And if you were going to throw it all away, why stoop so low? Being a sugar baby? It’s breaking Christopher’s heart to see you like this.”
Her words were sharp, and Skylar could feel the disdain in every syllable. Amelia hated Skylar for what she believed was betrayal. If anyone should have ended the relationship, it should have been Christopher. And even after the breakup, if Christopher hadn’t found someone better, why should Skylar get the chance to move on to someone more successful?
Paul frowned, confused by their outburst. “Are they out of their minds? The Williamses said I was Ms. Sullivan’s sugar daddy. Maybe they all need their eyes checked.”
He glanced at Joe, looking for some sign of reaction. To his surprise, Joe shot him a cold look, as if asking Paul if he thought he was worthy of that title. Paul silently screamed that he definitely wasn’t. The last thing he wanted was to get on Joe’s bad side.
Joe, meanwhile, was focusing on the medical report Skylar held tightly in her hand. His gaze darkened, but he said nothing.
Skylar, already at the end of her patience, snapped. “Give me a break! You’re heartless, and I believe in karma. You’re going to get what’s coming to you. The world may be big, but your minds are twisted, and you have no boundaries. You just can’t imagine anyone acting differently. Now get out of my way!”
Her words were sharp, each one like a knife, cutting through the last shred of restraint she had left. She was disgusted by the twisted and manipulative things they had said, and her stomach churned at their audacity.
Christopher and Amelia stood frozen, their eyes wide in shock. It was as if they no longer recognized Skylar.
“Skylar!” Amelia yelled, her voice cracking with frustration. The intensity of her anger seemed to almost push her to the brink of fainting.
Christopher’s face darkened further. “Do you know what you’re saying? Skylar, you’ve changed.” His words were heavy with disbelief, as though he couldn’t comprehend the person she had become.
At that moment, Joe was already striding toward them, his presence commanding attention. Skylar hadn’t noticed him coming up behind her.
Christopher, still not willing to back down, pointed an accusing finger at Paul as he walked up to Joe. “Mr. Martin, your assistant, Paul, has been acting inappropriately. He stole my girlfriend! She had just graduated and didn’t know how dangerous people like him could be. That’s why Paul took advantage of her!”
Christopher’s voice was loud and filled with indignation as he turned the situation on its head, making himself out to be the ultimate victim.
