Joe’s expression grew cold, his voice hardening as he spoke to Gloria. “I’ll handle it, Grandma. The Silvers are acting on their own.”
Gloria understood immediately that the Silvers had overstepped. “They called me. If not, would they have targeted Skylar like this? You need to handle it properly,” she insisted, her frustration palpable.
Jipsburg was full of families eager to match their daughters with Joe, something Gloria had always tolerated. But targeting Skylar was a different matter altogether. With Gloria’s backing, she knew no one would dare to bully Skylar again.
After the call ended, Joe summoned Paul, his mind already working on the next steps.
Paul’s eyes widened in surprise when he heard about Sabrina’s call to Gloria. “Just now, Annie was blocking me at the company entrance because she wanted to see you. Did they contact Mrs. Martin Senior after I declined? When did the Silvers become this reckless?”
Joe’s voice was steady but firm. “Go speak with Grayson. Have the bank press them for their loan,” he instructed.
Paul nodded and immediately left to carry out the order.
Meanwhile, Sabrina was panicking. After being abruptly hung up on by Gloria, she learned about the Williams Group’s impending crisis. They were on the brink of bankruptcy, likely a consequence of Joe’s retaliation for Skylar.
Gloria’s reaction made it clear she wouldn’t interfere with Joe’s personal matters. Sabrina’s heart raced as the weight of the situation dawned on her. She explained the situation to Annie, whose face turned even paler at the news.
Across town, Grayson was receiving an urgent call from the bank.
At the same time, Kenny, along with Peter and Samuel, was en route to the Gardner Group. With Peter driving, they were stuck in heavy traffic.
“We need answers today! I need to know who’s backing her!” Samuel growled, his anger rising. “What does she gain if the Williams family goes bankrupt?”
Samuel’s mind was clouded with resentment toward Skylar. He couldn’t forget how Charles, a minor role actor, had been treated better than him on set. It had been humiliating. The director, seeing the Williams family’s financial struggles, had reduced Samuel’s scenes to give more screen time to Charles. It was a slap in the face.
Peter, sitting beside him, maintained a solemn expression. “Calm down. First, we need to make her reveal who’s behind her. If someone is targeting the Williams family, we need to stop them. That’s our priority. Whether she goes to the hospital or not is secondary. If she refuses, she won’t be able to stay in Mr. Gardner Senior’s team. We’ll let him see her true colors today.”
Kenny, who had been eerily silent, finally spoke up. “Have you guys ever wondered why her attitude toward us has changed?” His face was grim, the weight of his thoughts heavy on his mind.
Lately, Kenny had been plagued by nightmares, all of them featuring Skylar. In the dreams, they had mistreated her—mocked her and taken advantage of her kindness. It hadn’t bothered him at first, but now, the guilt was eating at him. No one had ever asked Skylar if she wanted to donate blood in the first place. And now, he couldn’t shake the feeling they had gone too far.
