Joe was right on time to pick up Skylar at 5:00 p.m. Soon after, they arrived at Pearlhall Estate.
Gloria was absolutely thrilled when she heard that Skylar had joined Alexander’s team. “Skye, you’re incredible! You know, Alex is so stubborn—he never lets anyone push him around. He always shuts people down who come begging for favors or try to use connections to get into his team. But look at you—you made it on your own!”
She turned to Joe, who was sipping his water. “Joe, have you noticed how amazing your wife is?”
Joe glanced at Skylar, whose cheeks flushed pink at the compliment. “Yeah, she’s pretty amazing.”
Skylar was surprised by his words. He was actually agreeing with her today. Usually, he would have just nodded curtly or ignored such comments, but this time, he was different. Love certainly had a way of softening him.
After dinner, they settled down to watch a reality show with Gloria. Eventually, Gloria insisted they go back to Galaxy Villa to enjoy the evening alone. Skylar knew what she was up to—trying to play matchmaker. She hoped their relationship would grow.
In the past, Skylar might have played along, but tonight, it felt wrong. She couldn’t shake the feeling that she was somehow coming between Joe and Annie.
On the way back to Galaxy Villa, Skylar handed Joe an earring. “Does this belong to Ms. Silver? I found it when we got out of the car earlier. I couldn’t give it to you in time.”
Joe frowned as he looked at the earring. “Just toss it. I don’t need it.”
“Really? This looks expensive and probably belongs to Ms. Silver. She might want it back,” Skylar replied, surprised by his indifference.
Joe’s tone grew colder. “Do you know who Annie is?”
“I saw her in your car the other day. She’s a well-known host. Lots of people know who she is,” Skylar answered.
Joe’s reaction was slightly dismissive. With the conversation turning toward Annie, Skylar decided it was the right time to address something that had been on her mind. “When are we getting divorced?”
She thought that Joe wouldn’t want to keep someone he loved as his mistress.
Joe shot her a sharp look. “What did you say?”
Skylar repeated herself, “When should we get a divorce?”
“Are you trying to end the contract earlier? What’s the reason?” Joe asked darkly.
Skylar was caught off guard by his tone. “I didn’t know you were in a relationship with Ms. Silver. If I had known that back then, I wouldn’t have agreed to marry you.”
Mistakes had been made, but as long as they were addressed, there was still time to correct things.
Joe opened his mouth to explain, but before he could, his phone rang.
“Where are you? Give me ten minutes,” Joe said into the phone before hanging up. He turned back to Skylar. “We’ll talk about this later tonight. Don’t bring up divorce again.”
Skylar nodded, understanding that now wasn’t the right time to push the issue. Joe probably didn’t want to upset Gloria, considering her health.
The next morning, at the Williams Residence, Jeffrey was making phone calls. It seemed like either no one was answering or he was being brushed off.
