Chapter 149
Harvey stared at the bags of clothes, his eyes filling with tears. His classmates often mentioned how expensive the clothes from this mall were. Some even teased him about his old-fashioned, worn-out clothes. But that never bothered him.
The insecure often feel unworthy, but Harvey had never felt ashamed of his family’s situation. He believed that what he had—love, support, and a family—was something many people could never have. As for money, he didn’t have much now, but he planned to earn it in the future. To him, money wasn’t the most important thing.
That didn’t mean he wanted Skylar to spend money on him, though. She had already gone through so much. Yet, despite his protests, she had bought him clothes, spending a significant amount of money.
“I’ve been restoring paintings for others and even opened an Amazon store. It’s no big deal for me to buy you a few clothes with my income,” Skylar said, noticing Harvey’s hesitation.
Harvey was the youngest, but he was practical and never wasted money. He hadn’t worn many new clothes, and he never asked for any. Instead, he focused on buying nice clothes for Skylar when he could.
Just then, Maisy’s sharp voice cut through the air. “Skylar? Are you cheating on your sugar daddy to support your boy toy?”
Skylar and Harvey turned around, only to see Maisy snapping photos of them.
“You’re so shameless. Is he even of legal age? You’ve been so miserable lately that you don’t even spare minors now?” Maisy’s voice was dripping with malice. She seemed almost pleased to have caught Skylar in a compromising situation.
Harvey dropped the clothes, his anger rising. “What nonsense are you spouting, Maisy? I swear, you’re really asking for trouble!”
Before Maisy could respond, Harvey launched a flying kick toward her.
“Ahh!” Maisy screamed in pain, stumbling backward.
Skylar didn’t manage to stop Harvey, nor did she intend to. Maisy had bullied her for so long, and now, Harvey was standing up for her. She thought Maisy deserved it.
“Don’t kick me, you asshole!” Maisy yelled. “I remember now. You’re Harvey, aren’t you? Have you gone mad? I’m your real sister! She has nothing to do with you!”
Harvey was fuming. “Real sister, my foot. You don’t even acknowledge us. Have you no shame, pretending to be our sister now?”
With that, Harvey slapped her hard.
Harvey had never dared to hit women before—his older brothers had always taught him not to. But Maisy had crossed a line, and he couldn’t just stand by while she continued to torment Skylar. He felt it was necessary.
Maisy, furious and red-faced, screamed, “I’m calling the police right now! Aren’t you supposed to be taking the college entrance exams? Let’s see how you’ll take the exam with a police record.”
Harvey’s face changed instantly. No matter how young or impulsive, even the bravest youth would falter when faced with such despicable tactics for the first time.
“Alright, you call the police now. I’ll call a few reporters and have them investigate your true identity,” Skylar said calmly, already pulling out her phone to make the call.
Maisy’s face drained of color as she heard Skylar’s words. “Skylar!” she shouted, but her voice faltered.
Skylar smirked, but her attention wasn’t on Maisy. She was staring past her, toward someone entering the scene.
“Ms. Annie?” Maisy gasped.
Skylar’s gaze followed hers. Annie, the woman everyone had been talking about in Jipsburg recently, had appeared. Maisy had recognized her immediately.
