“Why did you send a voice message?” Skylar asked aloud, her tone laced with confusion.
On the other end, Joe’s voice came through again, calm and deliberate. “I accidentally tapped the voice button. Sorry.”
There was a brief pause, then he added, “I’m at the Williams residence. I’m currently dealing with something.”
Skylar narrowed her eyes slightly. Accidental? She wasn’t so sure. Given their conversation about divorce the day before, this sudden message felt more like an excuse to rekindle the discussion—and possibly lure her back to Galaxy Villa.
Joe fell quiet for a moment before asking, “Do you need me to come over?”
The suggestion startled her.
Was he offering to show up in front of the Williams family? If Joe revealed their marriage, it could change everything. But Skylar didn’t think he meant it seriously—probably just being polite.
“Thank you,” she replied evenly. “But there’s no need. I can handle it myself.”
A second later, another short voice message arrived. It was just a low hum from Joe—subtle, but somehow warm and steady.
“That voice…” Maisy’s ears perked up. She leaned forward, eyes squinting in suspicion. “It sounds like…”
The timbre was familiar—deep and cool, with a distinct composure. Maisy’s heart skipped a beat. Could that really be… Joe?
No, she told herself quickly. That was impossible. Joe wouldn’t be casually sending Skylar voice messages.
But the conversation had clearly been natural—intimate, even. It wasn’t something that could be explained away as a business exchange.
Jeffrey was stunned. His earlier indifference toward Skylar faded quickly. For the first time, he looked at her with calculation.
Could she actually have a connection to Joe?
“Was that Paul?” Maisy asked suddenly, hiding her growing unease behind a jealous smile. “Still denying your relationship with him?”
“It didn’t sound like Paul,” Kenny and Samuel said in unison.
They had both met Paul before. His voice had warmth—he spoke with ease and charm. But the voice they’d just heard carried an iciness that could cut straight through bone. It was terrifyingly calm, almost too composed.
Jeffrey stepped forward, glaring at Skylar. “Who was that?”
Skylar remained silent, meeting his gaze without a trace of fear.
Sadie, clearly alarmed, quickly added, “Skylar, who is your sugar daddy? Just tell us. If you’re with someone powerful, we can work with that. The Williams family’s daughter can’t be someone’s mistress. She must be a legitimate wife.”
Peter’s expression darkened. If the man on the phone wasn’t Paul, then all of his earlier calculations were meaningless. He had been hoping to leverage Skylar’s connection to Paul, but if it wasn’t him…
Then who?
Skylar smirked coldly. “Funny how people with dirty minds are always the first to throw accusations. Ever hear the saying, ‘Birds of a feather flock together’? Maybe you should focus on disciplining your perfect daughter.”
Her eyes landed sharply on Maisy.
“She’s quite skilled at playing the mistress. Her tea-making act isn’t half bad either. I suppose she learned from the best.”
Maisy’s face turned red. “I’ve said it was a misunderstanding! Why do you keep dragging that up? How long will you keep framing me?”
Samuel stepped in immediately, voice raised. “You’re going too far, Skylar! The truth is right in front of you, but you refuse to see it!”
Skylar didn’t flinch. She just stood there calmly, looking at them like strangers—people who were no longer capable of hurting her.
