Chapter 193
Christopher had shifted his assumption about the man Skylar was with, moving from Paul to Joe. But how had he figured it out?
“Are you done? If you are, then get lost,” Skylar replied flatly.
Seeing him again didn’t stir any strong emotions in her. A scumbag like Christopher wasn’t worth any of her energy.
Christopher’s heart felt like it was being slowly pierced by a knife. “You used to say you loved me, that you wanted to marry me. We even vowed to never be apart in this lifetime. Do you realize you’re going against our vows now?” he said, his voice thick with pain.
Skylar raised an eyebrow. “Oh, I see. You’ve picked up some acting skills and learned to twist the truth after sleeping around with Maisy for so long.” Her voice dripped with sarcasm.
She had come to realize that anyone tied to Maisy seemed to adopt the same despicable, shameless behaviors.
“I… What happened between Maisy and me isn’t what you think. She deceived me into thinking I liked her, but in reality, I’ve always loved you. Skylar, you’ve made a mistake too. We both took the wrong path,” Christopher continued, desperately.
“I’ll forgive you, and you forgive me, okay? I’m the only one who truly cares for you, loves you, and wants to marry you,” he pleaded, his eyes bloodshot as he gazed at her.
Skylar met his gaze, but this time, there was no love in her eyes. Only cold indifference. The person she once loved was now a stranger to her.
“No, you made an unforgivable mistake. I didn’t,” she said, the weight of seven wasted years with him settling in her mind. She couldn’t care less about the past.
A security guard at the entrance, noticing the strange interaction, quickly approached. “Ms. Sullivan, do you need help?” he asked, his concern evident.
“It’s okay. I just happened to run into a mental patient,” Skylar said with a calm smile.
The security guard nodded, understanding. He glanced at Christopher, who looked anything but stable. The guard couldn’t help but feel his good looks were wasted on him.
“What are you looking at?” Christopher yelled angrily at the security guard.
The guard rolled his eyes. “Hurry up and leave. Don’t think I won’t hit you just because you’re sick in the head. If you keep bothering Ms. Sullivan, I’ll beat you up.”
Skylar knew that the security guards Alexander hired were former soldiers, skilled in combat. Taking care of someone like Christopher would be easy for them.
Never had Christopher imagined he would be humiliated by a security guard. It was enough to push him toward a mental breakdown.
“Get lost! She’s my girlfriend! We’re just having a disagreement!” Christopher shouted, but it was clear no one believed him.
The security guard looked at Skylar for confirmation. She remained calm, her expression indifferent. She looked at Christopher as though he were just another stranger. He clearly wasn’t her boyfriend. The security guard couldn’t help but wonder how so many “loony” people kept crossing paths with Skylar.
“Skylar, we need to have a serious talk. This isn’t the place,” Christopher said, trying to calm down.
“Shall we go to that fondue restaurant we used to visit?” he suggested, his voice softening.
Skylar recoiled inwardly at the mention of fondue. She had once enjoyed it because, back then, Christopher didn’t have much money. So, fondue had felt like the most extravagant treat they could share.
“No, save your breath, Christopher,” she replied. The mention of that place only made her feel nauseous now.
“Skye, I can’t let go,” he continued, his voice taking on a more desperate tone. “I never agreed to break up. You don’t want to cause a scene at your workplace, do you? If you don’t want that, then come with me.”
Christopher tried to regain some semblance of control, hoping to make her remember the good times they had shared.
