Once again, Skylar was reminded that alcohol could cause trouble. But since the incident had already happened, there was no point in dwelling on it any longer.
She quickly typed a message to Joe: “I think you should forget about this unpleasant experience and not let it occupy your mind.” She sent it before heading to the shower for a relaxing break. Afterward, she lay on her bed and began scrolling through the photos Alexander had sent her. As she browsed, a restoration plan began to form in her mind. She could already envision how the piece would look once she repaired it.
Meanwhile, at the airport, Joe looked at his WhatsApp message with a faint smile on his lips. Beside him, Paul noticed the unexpected smile, and a chill ran down his spine. This wasn’t the usual demeanor of his boss. Joe wasn’t someone who smiled without a reason, and the fact that he was smiling while looking at his phone struck Paul as odd.
As Paul glanced over, he saw the WhatsApp message from Skylar. A realization hit him like a bolt of lightning.
With a cautious tone, Paul asked, “You seem to have a good relationship with Ms. Sullivan nowadays, Mr. Martin. Do you like her?”
The smile on Joe’s face instantly froze. His expression became deadpan as he quickly exited WhatsApp, turning off the screen.
In a chilly tone, he replied, “Not exactly.”
Paul, however, was unconvinced. “But you’ve been chatting with her a lot recently,” he remarked. He’d spent enough time around Joe to notice the small changes in his behavior. In the past, Joe had been terse and efficient when it came to messaging anyone. But lately, there was a patience in his messages, even a smile when he wasn’t required to type. Something was definitely going on between them, and Paul was willing to bet on it.
Joe raised an eyebrow, his voice turning icy. “We’re just talking about Grandma’s situation. Why do I feel like I’m not giving you enough work to keep you occupied?”
Paul immediately zipped his mouth shut. He wasn’t about to risk his life for gossip, so he decided it was better to stay silent.
At that moment, a surprised voice reached their ears. “Mr. Martin?”
Joe glanced over. “Marcus?”
Marcus had just arrived at the airport, walking through security with a beautiful woman who had a striking, voluptuous figure.
Paul, having just zipped his mouth shut, was busy taking a selfie. By sheer coincidence, Marcus ended up in the background of his shot.
Ten minutes later, after finishing up with the photos Alexander had sent, Skylar casually opened Instagram to check her feed. As she scrolled, she noticed a selfie Paul had posted from the airport. He was quite handsome, and his features reminded her of the charming idols from talent shows. He could easily debut if he wanted to.
But then her eyes stopped on Marcus, who was standing behind Paul in the background. Skylar was surprised to see him at the airport, on the same flight as Joe. What caught her attention, though, was the subtle thumb ring Marcus was wearing. Her gaze focused on it, and a sudden premonition gripped her. Something would happen with Marcus in the coming days.
Instinctively, Skylar picked up her phone and dialed Joe.
“The number you have dialed is unavailable,” the automated voice on the other end of the line said.
