Maisy was quite attractive, but she didn’t compare to Skylar in terms of beauty. In fact, she even looked older than Skylar. Yet, she insisted on calling Skylar her “elder sister.” It was clear that she was resorting to those tired guilt-tripping tactics that you often see on TV.
The staff wasn’t privy to the full details of the situation, nor did they feel the need to be. What mattered to them was that Skylar had been professional and pleasant to work with, and that was enough.
Maisy froze, unable to believe the reactions of the people around her. She quickly attempted to change her approach.
“Skylar, do you know how rare our blood types are? Only you can save me. Are you really going to watch me die?” she cried out, her voice tinged with desperation.
It was a last-ditch effort to manipulate Skylar, hoping she wouldn’t want others to think of her as heartless.
But Skylar didn’t flinch. She merely responded, her voice indifferent: “So what if you die? What does that have to do with me?”
“You… How can you be so heartless?” Maisy’s voice wavered as her anger boiled over. “What kind of person have you become? You’ve even colluded with outsiders to harm our family. You’re a homewrecker who destroys other families. How can you be so immoral? How much money did that man give you?”
Skylar raised an eyebrow, unimpressed, but Maisy was far from done.
“I’ll ask Mom and Dad to give you even more money, but please stop going down this wrong path. You don’t know anything! That man helped you secure a position with Mr. Gardner Senior’s team, but when he realizes you know nothing, he’ll kick you out. It’ll be a disgrace to the Williams family when that happens!”
Maisy gritted her teeth, hoping to make Skylar feel cornered with her accusations.
Several colleagues of Skylar’s exchanged puzzled glances. Was this lady out of her mind? Since when could one get ahead purely through interpersonal connections? Everyone knew Skylar didn’t need anyone’s help—she earned her place through her own talent and hard work.
“She’s acting like Skylar got in through some man’s connections?” one of Skylar’s female colleagues muttered. “Skylar has more talent in her pinky than someone like her could dream of!”
“Yeah, and it seems like she’s trying to tarnish Skylar’s reputation,” another colleague added. “I took a short course in traditional medicine myself. And honestly, look at her complexion. Doesn’t she look a bit off? She’s probably pregnant.”
“Could it be that she’s the one who’s been messing around with someone and is now projecting her own problems onto Skylar?” one more joked, shaking their head.
The staff was clearly growing fed up with Maisy’s antics, and a few stepped forward, clearly not willing to let her attack Skylar any longer.
Skylar had briefly worried that her colleagues might fall for Maisy’s charade, but it seemed she had underestimated them. Maisy’s pretentious acts were losing their effect, and Skylar’s reputation among her colleagues was solid.
Maisy was taken aback, staring at the group of people defending Skylar. She stammered, “I’m not pregnant! And I’m definitely not anyone’s mistress! Skylar’s the one—you’ve all been deceived by her. She isn’t capable of anything!”
Maisy’s words fell flat as her credibility crumbled with each passing moment.
“If you don’t believe me, ask her to repair an antique. She even gave my mom a birthday gift that turned out to be a fake painting. Someone who can’t tell what’s real from what’s fake can’t possibly do restoration work,” Maisy continued, grasping at straws.
But Skylar didn’t care. It was obvious to her now that Maisy was just trying to stir up drama, hoping someone would take her side.
Several of Skylar’s colleagues exchanged glances, silently agreeing that they had seen enough. They stepped up, protecting Skylar from Maisy’s desperate attacks.
“I suggest you investigate Skylar thoroughly,” Samuel interjected coldly, clearly hoping to discredit Skylar and make her appear incompetent. “And you should definitely bring Mr. Gardner Senior here. Don’t let Skylar ruin your team’s reputation.”
Skylar, however, was quick to fire back.
“It’s you who should be investigated,” she said, her tone biting. “Didn’t I ask you to leave? The Gardner Group building isn’t a place for you to spread lies.”
Without another word, Skylar turned to the security team. “Security, escort them out.”
Her colleagues didn’t hesitate. They stepped forward, firmly standing by her side.
“Please leave now,” the captain of the security team said, his voice cold and commanding.
Samuel and Maisy’s faces were twisted with frustration and rage. Despite all their insults and accusations, Skylar’s colleagues still stood by her, unshaken.
Had Skylar brainwashed them? They couldn’t understand why the people around her believed her so easily.
Skylar felt a warm sense of gratitude spread through her chest. Joining Alexander’s team had been the right decision after all. The support of her colleagues was invaluable.
