Chapter 132
Sadie was stunned, her face betraying her confusion. Maisy, however, watched the scene with evident glee. Kenny furrowed his brow, sensing the tension building. Jeffrey, ever pragmatic, nodded and spoke with a calm authority.
“We’ll force him to marry you when the time is right,” he said, his tone shifting from stern to almost reassuring. “Then, you can set the terms for the marriage. Everything will naturally fall into place.”
Skylar stared at him, her gaze cold, and the irony in her voice was unmistakable. “Just now, you said the Williams family couldn’t tolerate someone being a mistress. How quickly you contradict yourselves.”
“It’s different,” Jeffrey mumbled, visibly embarrassed by his own words. “We’ll do everything we can to make Paul marry you.”
Samuel, his patience worn thin, sneered. “You’re hardly a virgin. You dated Christopher for years, and you’ve slept with someone long ago. Stop pretending to be pure.”
Maisy’s eyes flickered with interest. She remembered Christopher’s words about Skylar—how she had always insisted on waiting until marriage.
“Samuel, shut up!” Sadie cut him off sharply, her face reddening with anger.
Skylar was the last person Sadie wanted to criticize, despite her rebelliousness. She quickly regained her composure, her voice softening. “Skylar, Paul is a man worth entrusting your life to. We’re all thinking of your best interests.”
Skylar’s eyes met Sadie’s, cold and calculating. Sadie forced a smile, but it wasn’t convincing.
“If I were you,” Skylar began, her tone dripping with sarcasm, “I’d be bolder. Let me sleep with Joe. It might even be easier.”
Jeffrey’s face darkened with disapproval. “Don’t be so greedy. Joe is not someone you can aspire to. He didn’t even like Maisy. How could he like you?”
If it weren’t for the fact that Joe was beyond their reach, Jeffrey would have considered using other means to get Maisy close to him.
“You’re getting close to Paul because of Joe, aren’t you?” Jeffrey barked. “I advise you to drop that thought. You’re not worthy of Joe. If you do something outrageous and he finds out, you’ll drag the entire Williams family down with you.”
Skylar’s expression was unshaken, her voice calm. “Let’s leave it at that. I’m moving back in today, though.”
She paused, a sly smirk playing at the corners of her lips. “What does your business have to do with me, though?”
She didn’t care about the Williams family. In fact, she would be delighted to see them fall apart. Since her rebirth, she had been preoccupied with many things, but settling scores with them was now a priority. She would go back, agree to divorce Joe, and terminate the agreement early.
“What?” Jeffrey’s eyes narrowed in disbelief.
“Are you not satisfied with the 500 thousand dollars from Dad?” Peter asked, his voice tinged with frustration. “I can give you another 500 thousand, if you want.”
Maisy quickly added, her tone dripping with condescension, “One million dollars is not a small amount, Skylar.”
Kenny, who had been quietly observing the interaction, finally noticed Maisy’s rude behavior. He had rarely seen this side of her, but now it was unmistakable.
Skylar raised an eyebrow, her response cutting. “Give me a billion dollars, and I’ll consider sleeping with Joe to get him to agree to collaborate with the Williams family.” She held up her index finger as if presenting a negotiation point.
Unlike them, Skylar wasn’t making demands. She was at least offering them a choice, one they clearly weren’t expecting.
“You’re insane!” Maisy stood up, furious. “You’re just trying to drain the Williams family dry.”
Jeffrey’s face turned ashen, his patience wearing thin. “Do you even know what you’re saying?”
“A billion?” Samuel’s voice was incredulous, his anger palpable. “Are you serious? Even if we handed you a billion dollars, do you really think Joe would spare you a second glance?”
Skylar smiled, her eyes gleaming with dark amusement. “Maybe, maybe not. But at least I’m not pretending to be someone I’m not.”
