After a while, Natalie emerged from the dressing room, her figure stunning in a custom-designed gown. The fabric hugged her slender frame, and her fair skin seemed to glow under the lights. Her bright smile radiated confidence, and she looked like a vision from a fairy tale, effortlessly pulling off the perfectly tailored white gown.
“What do you think?” Natalie asked, her voice tinged with curiosity. Though she didn’t have the curvaceous figure she often envied in others, she knew Jeremy was attracted to strong personalities like hers, not necessarily just body shapes. If he were concerned with appearances alone, she would have been far more self-conscious.
Skylar smiled, impressed. “It’s beautiful, and it suits you perfectly.”
“This will do then.” Natalie spun around in front of the mirror, admiring the way the gown fit her. Though she didn’t have the most voluptuous figure, she had the kind of confidence that could make any outfit shine. She could certainly be a beauty if she found the right style, and right now, she was pleased with how she looked.
Just as she was silently congratulating herself, her gaze caught something behind Skylar. Her eyes widened.
Skylar turned, following Natalie’s line of sight. On the large 60-inch LED screen hanging in the store, Joe was being interviewed by a female host.
“Thank you for doing this interview, Mr. Martin. But I have another question. Are you single?” The host asked, her voice light and inquisitive.
Joe paused for a moment before nodding, though he didn’t say much. His silence confirmed the answer—he was single at that moment.
Skylar raised an eyebrow at the screen, her mind whirring.
The female host seemed delighted with his answer. “Mr. Martin, you’re still single despite being such an outstanding man. Could you share with us the qualities you look for in a partner?”
“As long as it’s someone I like,” Joe replied, his tone straightforward and clear.
Skylar’s curiosity was piqued.
“Oh my goodness!” Natalie suddenly exclaimed, pointing out the window excitedly. “It seems like we keep running into Joe lately! Skylar, look over there! Isn’t that Joe Martin? And he’s with the female host from the interview.”
Skylar turned to see the pair standing in front of a restaurant, casually chatting and laughing as they headed toward the entrance. Even Joe, who was usually expressionless, had a faint smile on his face. It was clear that he genuinely enjoyed the company of the female host.
“I remember now! That’s Annie Silver!” Natalie said, her voice filled with recognition. “She was a well-known figure at my husband’s college, the campus belle. She definitely knows Joe Martin.”
Skylar felt a mix of emotions at the sight of them. Natalie, on the other hand, was buzzing with excitement. “Maybe they’re not just friends. They probably used the interview as an excuse to flirt. They’ve most likely been in touch long before this.”
Skylar couldn’t help but feel a little disheartened. If Joe truly liked someone else, she’d have to figure things out. Perhaps it was time to have a conversation with Gloria—she’d need to prepare for a quick divorce soon after her marriage, it seemed.
Natalie, eager to prove her theory, decided to call Jeremy. But to her surprise, it wasn’t Jeremy who answered the phone.
The voice on the other end was soft, smooth, and distinctly feminine. “Mr. Hughes is in a meeting right now and can’t take your call.”
Natalie froze. The voice was enchanting, with a tone that would make any man’s heart skip a beat. She was struck by the realization that Jeremy had a new secretary.
A bit confused, Natalie asked, “I’m Mrs. Hughes. Please let him know I need him to call me back once he’s done with his meeting.”
The voice on the other end remained polite and calm, but Natalie couldn’t shake the feeling that something felt off.
