Charles nodded in confusion. “Yes, I’m Charles Sullivan.”
“There’s no mistake, Mr. Sullivan. Please go inside and have a look. If there’s any issue, feel free to give me a call.”
“Oh? Okay.”
With a mix of confusion and fear of being kicked out at any moment, Charles gritted his teeth and walked inside. He wondered if this was some sort of retaliation from Samuel. Maybe the villa was rigged with something meant to embarrass him.
However, Charles wasn’t easily intimidated by Samuel’s attempts to get under his skin. Upon entering the villa, he found no sign of any tricks. He carefully inspected every room, even checking the fridge. Everything seemed normal, and there was no indication that anyone had tampered with anything.
He hadn’t lived in a villa before and wasn’t accustomed to staying in one during shoots. Naturally, he was curious and explored every corner.
Finally, Charles felt a wave of relief. “Huh, even if they made a mistake, I’m not at a loss today. Maybe I just got lucky?”
Just as he was about to message Skylar about the situation, he noticed a bunch of people mentioning him in the group chat. He was even more bewildered. Why were they addressing him by his first name and acting all chummy now? These people had always been so arrogant.
Samuel, reading the messages directed at Charles, was enraged. He immediately started a private message to Charles. “Did Skylar make a deal with her sugar daddy so you could stay in the villa? No one even knows who she’s involved with. But hey, I bet you’re enjoying the perks.”
Fuming with dissatisfaction, Samuel called Peter. “Have you figured out who Skylar’s sugar daddy is? He must be powerful enough to strong-arm our film crew. Now Charles has the nerve to act all high and mighty, and everyone’s kissing up to him. Damn it! I really want to kill him!”
Peter, looking weary, hadn’t been home for days and had been staying at the company. His white shirt was wrinkled, a clear sign of his exhaustion. With little energy to console Samuel, he said, “I haven’t figured out who’s backing her yet, but I’m certain it’s someone close to the Jakeman family. Only they have the power to suppress us. How much money do you have left?”
“I don’t have much. I’ve spent almost all the money I’ve made over the years,” Samuel admitted, his lack of financial foresight becoming evident.
Peter fell silent for a few moments. “Let’s find an opportunity to meet Skylar together. I’ve found out she’s working in Mr. Gardner Senior’s team.”
“Mr. Gardner Senior’s team? Is she working as a cleaner there? She’s really embarrassing us.” Samuel was convinced Skylar couldn’t possibly hold a respectable position in the team.
Rubbing his temples, Peter responded, “It’s not certain yet. She could be there to gain a good reputation.”
“That’s disgusting,” Samuel muttered.
“If there’s nothing else, I’m hanging up. There’s too much going on at the company right now. We might not be able to hold on for much longer.” Peter had a sinking feeling that their company’s downfall was near. They could soon be burdened with massive debts.
Samuel’s voice wavered with disbelief. “Our company’s so big. It can’t possibly go under, right?”
Could it really be that serious?
“We’ll go to Gardner Group on Monday,” Peter replied, his tone final. He didn’t elaborate further and simply told Samuel when to meet.
Samuel rolled his eyes. “Do you really have to be this terrified?”
The Williams family was prominent in Jipsburg, and their company had been operating for many years. How could they go bankrupt just because of a few minor difficulties? Surely, they’d overcome them eventually.
