Skylar suddenly remembered adding Annie’s contact information to WhatsApp.
Before checking the message, she glanced at Joe. She still hadn’t figured out what was going on between Joe and Annie. Joe was an expert at concealing his thoughts; no one, not even Skylar, could guess his true intentions.
Annie was clearly interested in Joe. The way Rowan and a few others had acted that night suggested that their relationship was more than just casual.
“Is something wrong?” Joe asked, noticing her glance. His eyes were cold and inscrutable, and there was an intensity to them that made Skylar’s heart skip a beat.
Skylar quickly shook her head, not wanting to reveal her thoughts.
Joe reached up to massage his temple. His frustration from work must have seeped into his demeanor, unintentionally startling her.
“If there’s anything, you can ask me directly. We’re a married couple now,” Joe said, his tone softening slightly.
A fake married couple under contract, Skylar thought silently, but she didn’t say it aloud.
“There’s nothing right now. If there is, I’ll be sure to ask you,” she replied.
Joe hummed in acknowledgement and returned to his work.
Skylar opened her WhatsApp and read Annie’s message: “Ms. Sullivan, will you be available this Saturday? There are some things I’d like to discuss with you in person.”
Wasn’t Saturday tomorrow? She had to return home to see Janine first. After that, she’d be visiting Charles at his workplace. There wouldn’t be much time left after that.
“Unfortunately, I’m booked tomorrow, but I’m free the day after,” Skylar replied.
A few minutes later, Annie responded: “Alright, then let’s meet at Mountain Mist Restaurant the day after tomorrow at noon.”
“Sure, see you then,” Skylar replied, locking her phone.
After navigating through the congested roads, they finally arrived at Pearlhall Residence. Joe and Skylar got out of the car and held hands, their fingers interlocked. Skylar’s fingers felt a little stiff; the intimacy of holding hands was still unfamiliar to her.
Edgar, who was waiting outside, saw them holding hands and couldn’t help but smile. “Mrs. Martin Senior is waiting for you inside. Mr. and Mrs. Martin, the more I see you two together, the more I’m convinced you’re a perfect match.”
When they had exited the car, it looked like a scene straight out of a movie.
There was a saying—how did it go? A match made in heaven.
If either of them were replaced, it wouldn’t have the same effect.
Skylar’s smile faltered at the mention of compatibility.
Joe responded smoothly, “When has Grandma ever made a mistake in her judgment?”
“Yes, yes,” Edgar hurriedly nodded. “Anyone Gloria chooses as her granddaughter-in-law must be the most compatible with Joe.”
The last time they visited, their relationship hadn’t seemed this intimate. Although it hadn’t been long, now they were holding hands as soon as they got out of the car. It was as if they couldn’t bear to be apart, even for a moment.
When Gloria saw them, her smile widened. “Oh, my, come quickly! Both of you, come over here and see this feast. I even made some of it myself.”
Gloria had always said that Skylar was Joe’s ideal type. Joe had initially been resistant to the idea, but now—look at him.
