Chapter 196
An hour later, Natalie arrived at Jeremy’s company. She didn’t visit often, not wanting to disturb his work, and the last time she had come was before their marriage. The receptionist, a new face, didn’t immediately recognize her.
When Natalie mentioned she was Mrs. Hughes, the receptionist seemed somewhat taken aback.
“Mrs. Hughes? Ah, wait a moment. Let me… Let me check with Ms. Green to see where Mr. Hughes is,” she said, flustered.
Natalie frowned, her thoughts drifting. The current receptionist didn’t seem as professional as the previous one. She wasn’t sure who Ms. Green was, either. Did Jeremy hire a new secretary? She didn’t recall him mentioning anything about it. He rarely spoke to her about work matters, and she seldom inquired.
“There’s no need to ask anyone,” Natalie replied smoothly. “I’ll go up myself. If he’s in a meeting, I’ll wait in his office and won’t disturb him.”
She knew which floor Jeremy’s office was on, so she headed for the elevator without waiting for a response. The receptionist immediately made a phone call after Natalie entered the lift, though she was unaware of it.
Jeremy’s office was on the top floor. He preferred to work in peace, and the top floor offered the quietest atmosphere. Under his leadership, the Hughes family company had doubled in size, becoming one of the most prestigious families in Jipsburg.
Natalie couldn’t help but feel proud of him. He was her husband, after all, and the thought made her heart swell with happiness.
The elevator doors opened, and the first thing Natalie saw was a tall, beautiful woman standing just outside. The woman wore a simple white shirt, yet it clung to her in a way that only added to her allure. Natalie was briefly struck by her beauty, but as someone who was also confident in her own appearance, she didn’t feel inferior. Attractiveness, after all, was subjective.
The woman—Annabelle—looked Natalie over discreetly, her expression full of the self-assuredness of someone who knew her beauty well.
“Hello,” Annabelle said, her voice cool and measured.
Natalie smiled and greeted her back, then continued on her way to Jeremy’s office, holding the takeout in her hand.
Annabelle, standing by the elevator, watched Natalie’s retreating figure with a hint of disdain. It didn’t surprise her that Jeremy was so passionate in bed. She doubted Natalie could satisfy him fully. After all, they had married simply out of friendship and the influence of their families. Natalie was the only one who seemed to believe that Jeremy had married her out of love.
Annabelle glanced down at her stockings, irritated to see they were torn again. Luckily, she always kept an extra pair in her bag.
Meanwhile, Natalie knocked on Jeremy’s office door. As she heard his familiar “Come in,” she stepped inside with a bright smile.
“Hi, my dear husband! Surprise!” she said cheerfully.
Jeremy looked up from his work, his smile instantly softening as he saw her. “Do you have the results of the check-up?”
“Yes, you’re in perfect health, Mr. Hughes. So, our child will be very healthy too,” Natalie replied, setting the takeout on his desk and pulling the check-up report from her bag.
She added, “We can have a child whenever we want now.”
Jeremy crossed the room and pulled her into an embrace. “Good. We’ll be having a child of our own.”
As Natalie melted into his arms, a rush of pure bliss filled her. This was her husband, the man she loved, and together, they would build a family.
