Chapter 180
“However, this kind of repair work is time-consuming and labor-intensive. Even for a young person, the price won’t be much lower than mine. Have you made up your mind?” Alexander continued discussing the task with the person on the phone before finally hanging up.
He turned to Skylar, his admiration evident in his eyes. Skylar was, without a doubt, the most talented young person he had ever encountered. Despite her youth, she outshone even the more senior team members in terms of skill.
During her time here, she had remained humble, quietly earning her place in the team. Her expertise had silenced any skeptics, and now, many were eager to become her apprentice.
“Come, take a look at this. Can you handle this task? If you can, the commission for the team will be 30 percent, and the rest will be yours,” Alexander said, showing Skylar several videos and photos on his phone, one after the other.
Skylar studied each image and video carefully, her focus sharp.
“I believe I can handle it, but it will take some time. I can do it if there’s no rush,” she responded after thoughtful consideration. She was confident in her abilities, though she valued the quality of the restoration more than anything.
Alexander smiled warmly at Skylar’s serious demeanor. “You didn’t even ask about the pay?” he teased.
Skylar shook her head. “This job is important for my career in this industry. The pay isn’t my main concern. What matters most is delivering high-quality work.”
Her approach was grounded in the belief that if she performed well and earned the respect of the industry, her value would naturally rise over time.
Alexander beamed with pride. “You’re wise beyond your years. Alright, I’ll take this job on for you. Rest assured, it won’t be less than seven figures.”
“Thank you, Mr. Gardner Senior,” Skylar replied with a sincere smile.
As Alexander watched her leave, he couldn’t help but feel a twinge of regret. He wished he could mentor her more directly, or better yet, see her as his granddaughter-in-law. What a pity.
He recalled John’s comment that Skylar and Caleb were not a match, which led him to treat her as an apprentice rather than trying to pair her with Caleb. After all, Skylar was already spoken for, and that person was Joe.
But he couldn’t share this with Caleb—he might let something slip or act impulsively. It was indeed a shame. The one granddaughter-in-law he had hoped for was already taken.
Just then, there was a knock at the door.
“Come in,” Alexander called.
Skylar was about to leave when the voice outside spoke directly to her. “Skylar, your family is here to see you. We’ve arranged for them in the waiting area, and they’re waiting for you.”
“My family?” Skylar frowned, puzzled. If it were her foster parents, they would have informed her beforehand. Why would they come without letting her know? Could it be something urgent?
“Yes, they said they’re your family,” came the response.
Skylar pushed aside her doubts. “Thank you,” she said, then turned to Alexander. “Sorry, Mr. Gardner Senior, I’d like to go see them first. They must have something urgent to discuss with me, so I’ll go meet them now.”
“Go ahead,” Alexander said kindly. “If it’s something urgent, you can take the rest of the day off. Don’t worry about it.”
